In America they would consider this very strange when a twenty-something young actor drags his mother to work and even hangs out with her on a regular basis. Being recognize as a “Mama’s boy” in America is not something to proud of because here we call it a sickness, a persona of weakness. Some might even view it has being gay because it is the believed that gay men are overly obsessed with their mothers.
In Thailand, it works a little differently because young Thai stars use their mothers as a shield against scandal. They love to use the “I’m constantly with my mother, I couldn’t have done that” excuse.
Actor “Rome” Patachada Nampan is taking full advantage of this perception. If my mother constantly around me, there won’t be scandal. Of course, he doesn’t admit that is the reason. Rome claims that he loves to be around his mother. When he brings her on set, she makes him feel at ease and feel warmth. <–not my words> Rome drags his mother everywhere. There isn’t an event where he doesn’t take her. She is constantly lurking in the background giving him support.
A reporter asked Rome whether he worries about hooking up with girls with his mother around. Rome replied that at this point it isn’t a problem because he doesn’t have time for women. He is constantly working on set and other promotional activities that he doesn’t have time for them. He doesn’t even go out because he is constantly working-acting and doing promotional work.
umm…okay Rome don’t you think you’re going overboard. I like my mom but I don’t want to hang with her 24/7. Weird. It’s time to cut the umbilical cord and stop using your mom as a shield against scandal. Be a man!
