Dum Kham: ep 1 Caps Part 1

I’m loving this series, it has all the components that make me happy–cute guy, feisty girl, dimwitted country folks, and an arrange marriage, all great ingredients for a relaxing lakorn.

At the start of the episode, we’re in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima. We’re introduce to Dum, our nang’ek, as she tries to get her plower out of the mud with no avail. Her two helpers/employees want to give up and rudely insult her by saying,

“Oy, this is tiring, this is the wrong method.I think we should get the guys from over there to help us think it through. The strength of a woman like you can’t handle this.”

Furious by their comment, Dum gets on the plower and accelerates the plower out of the mud.

She jumps out of the vehicle and proclaims to them,

“Do you see now? Don’t you ever insult that a woman can’t do anything.Know it now, there is nothing I can’t do.”

The two men stare at her in awe and she walks away triumphantly.

Back home, Dum’s father is being asked by his transgender friend Napa to be an elder for his wedding.

Napa:“I don’t know why, but neither of our elders want to come.”

“They probably fear humiliation.” Dum’s father whispered to himself.

Though feeling uncomfortable about the situation, he decides to help them out anyways. He congratulated them,“I’m very happy for both the grooms, oy, I mean the bride and the groom.” And, sent them on their way.

Dum arrives home and bumps into Napa and her finacee Ruj.

Dum:“Ow Susai, it’s been a long time, you look more feminine, have you chopped all of it off yet?”

Napa:“I did it a long time ago, I did it twice already.”

Haha, her finacee gave her a long stare when she said that and she ushered him out. HAHA…what the hell, they made it seem like the Ruj guy didn’t know.

Alone, her father erupts with humorous rage because everyone is getting married, even a transgender and his daughter is still unmarried.

Dum:“Dad? Why are you making such a ruckus, is the act of getting married that important?”

Daeng:“Of course, it’s important. A girl who doesn’t get marry and move out, they will gossip that her parents didn’t raise her right and that is why nobody wants her.”

Dum:They are insulting me and not me, you don’t need to feel angry on my behalf. I want to broadcast it right here,in front of the earth, table, logs, and trees, that I will never make my self up and wait to get marry. There is more to life than waiting for a man. No matter what, in this life time, I will never get marry.”

She gives her dad some money and marches out.

“Who will ever take her?” Her father mumbles to himself.

In Bangkok, Tuthiya arrives home after years of studying in England . His mother takes him to a hi-so fashion show. Man, were the dresses ugly, they were like ugly pastel prom dresses. Very unoriginal.

There, he is entice by Dao, a model at the fashion show. She accidentally falls on him. Everyone watches and claps as they hold each other.

–Did anyone notice, they are using the same music from “Kwaam Lap Kong Superstar.”

After the runway show, Tuthiya massages her sprain leg in the garden area. Umm…why? I would never let a stranger touch my legs. She was all into it like she knew the guy. What the hey?

They start talking about England and immediately Dao blurts out, “Oh I used to live in England, my parents still live there.’

Tuthiya uses this opportunity to mack on Dao. “Since we both used to be thugs from England, I think we should go out and celebrate our past similarities.’

Tuthiya excuses himself to get a drink. After he leaves, Dao giggles with glee.

Oh this is so crazy and the best, I have found someone handsome and rich to go out with!” Dao tells herself.

All of a sudden, the transgender fashion show organizer guy runs up to her. He compliments Dao about Tuthiya. “not only is he rich he is handsome too” He congratulates her.

Dao:”I hope you are right, but I wan to check his finances too. Nowadays, you can’t just estimate their value by just appearances.”

Transgender guy excitedly laughs and gives Dao a high five. He jumps up and gallops off.

Unbeknownst to Dao, Tiwa (Tuthiya’s father) heard everything. He was lurking in the brushes trying to hide from everyone because he hates these types of events. He rather watches TV at home than come to something like this.

When he heard what Dao said, Tiwa told himself: “That girl is trying to trap my son!”

While trying to adjust her shoe, Dao accidentally flings her shoe over the shrubbery. It lannds in front of Tiwa. He steps out and shows himself to Dao.

Dao assumes that Tiwa is someone’s driver, she orders him to bring her shoes over. He stares at her not knowing what to do.

She becomes agitated and said, “Uncle, you’re not a good driver, can’t you just pick it up for me?”

He picks it up for her and she rudely told him,‘Was that hard?”

She gives him a rude wai and Tuthiya returns with the drinks.

After that, Tiwa goes and look for his wife. He points out to his wife that Dao is a terrible woman, unfit for their son.

His wife argues that she is perfect for Tuthiya because she is beautiful and rich. Tiwa is still not please and does not want Dao as his future daughter-in-law.

His wife becomes annoyed and starts yelling at him in front of everyone,

“What do you mean by that? Why did you even marry me? Don’t you want our son to marry the best girl like you did. You don’t know anything. If you don’t agree, you should just keep quiet.”

In order to save his son from gold-digger Dao, Tiwa decides to call his good friend Daeng for some assistance. He wants to know if Daeng still wants to keep their childhood agreement that their children should marry.

Since Daeng is desperate to marry off his tomboyish daughter Dum and Tiwa is also desperate about his son Tuthiya, they play up their children’s attributes.

Daeng in describing his daughter Dum:

“Oy, my daughter is very beautiful, very proper.”

Actually, she is a total slob. In the second picture, her hand is in a spicy mango sauce. Ew! The ingredients in a spicy mango sauce are fish sauce, peppers, sugar, shrimp paste, and fermented fish sauce. Very smelly!

Tiwa (Tuthiya’s father):“Well my son is very handsome, well mannered, and not a picky man, and very sophisticated.”

Actually, he is the most particular guy in the world.

Daeng:“Ahoy, my daughter is sophisticated too.” (Does a fake laugh)

Tiwa:“My son is a gentleman and a complete manly man!”

And, they show a scene of Tuthiya taking a bubble bath and reading a novel. Yes, very manly.

In conclusion, since both men are desperate to marry their children off, they agree on the arrange marriage. It will be immediate too. Tuthiya will come to the provinces the next day.

The next day, Daeng blows up balloons for decorations to welcome Tuthiya. Katoey Nawn surprises him by puncturing one of his balloons with a needle.

Daeng orders Nawn to wake up Dum and get her glammed up at the beauty shop. Nawn asked for what reason and that he can’t do it because Dum has already left the house.

Annoyed, Daeng accidentally blurted out, “Oy, how is she suppose to welcome her betrothed now.”

Startled, Nawn shouts out:“Dum has a finacee!”

Before Daeng could tell him not to say anything to Dum, Nawn scurries off.

Nawn crazily finds Dum in town.

Nawn, out of breath:“Dad is currently looking for a husband.”

“Huh? Dad is looking for a husband? How can my dad do this now? Why is he going to change his sexual orientation at this age?” Dum exclaims.

Nawn mistakingly:”That’s correct!”

“No, he is not looking for a husband for himself it’s for you Dum.” Nawn corrects himself.

Immediately Dum rushes home to confront her father about the news of her arrange marriage.

Dum learns that the guy her father has betrothed her to is her childhood nemesis, Tuthiya. The little boy who used to call her “Dark, Duck face girl”.

Dum has a flashback of when she was playing in the river and Tuthiya came over and ruined her fun by calling her “Dark-duck face girl.”

He stuck his tongue out at her and ran off. She chased after him with her mud filled bucket and fought back with, “You pale face mofo.”

After the flashback, Dum exclaims:‘ That pale face guy, why didn’t he die yet?”

When Tuthiya is informed by his father he has to marry Dum, he can’t believe his luck and tries to argue his way out of it.

Tuthiya:”What? you want me to marry Dum, that ill-mannered girl? This is a new era now, Dad. You still want to hold me down?”

Tiwa:“What’s so wrong about this?”

” This whole thing is wrong, Oh I can still remember that dark face girl!” He tells his father.

He remembers running away from mud soaked Dum as a kid and being hit with her mud filled bucket. He fell down and she sits on him.

Little Dum while covering Tuthiya’s face with mud:“You gonna get it now.”

She runs off and he calls out to her, “Just you wait, you gonna get it one day!”

She turns around and throws mud in his face and laughs, “Serves you right!”

Since that day, Tuthiya still holds a grudge against Dum and vows to get back at her.

Tuthiya assumes Dum is desperate to marry him and agrees to go see her. He wants to taunt her and make her pay back what she did to him as a kid.
