You don’t hear much about Joy Rinalee, nang’rai from “Jamleuy Ruk (Defendant of Love)”. She does her thing, model on the side, film lakorns quietly. When it’s time to promote her lakorn, she promotes. No fuss, no drama. Very discrete. Even in this interview she doesn’t disclose much. Rather than giving a concise answer about her love life, she diverts the question by saying there are different types of love, a relationship love between a man and woman is not important as other types of love–friend love, family love, love for work are more important. Younger actresses should learn a thing or two from Joy about keeping their personal life private. Being private gives you longevity in this business.
The interview:
In “Din Nam Lom Fai (Earth- Water-Wind- Fire)”, your character is very well-mannered.
Joy:“She is not that well-mannered, she is more of a sweet girl. My character is an actress back in that era. She is a Khun Nu (little mistress). She is a famous person in the community and there are a lot of people who are envious of her. She likes to dress up a little. In the story, she doesn’t know her father (Chatchai Plengpanich) sells narcotics, she doesn’t know her father’s back-dealings.”
Will you promote the fashion in the lakorn to the mainstream?–The lakorn is set in the 60s and 70s. The person is asking whether Joy is bringing the fashion from that era back, making it popular again.
Joy:“Probably not, fashion shifts back and forth, right now the fashion of the past is popular again, though not the complete ensemble. Certain things are okay. Now, T-shirts and pants are fitted at the waist.
Back then, waist were high, and T-shirts too. Accessories were important: necklace, bracelets, earrings. Your hair had to be a certain way, they wore a lot of make up. Nowadays, they don’t dress up like back then, maybe some elements are incorporated but not completely.”
You filmed for a long time, up to 8 months…
Joy:“That’s right. When you’re working, there is pleasure in it and also you feel at ease, so you don’t realize it has been a long time. The skill, the lights, the picture, I think it will turn out good. It’s worth the money and the idea is different. The image is different. You won’t see this in many lakorns.”
Too bad in the lakorn you are not paired off with Chakrit. Written in the news, they say he is your old flame.
Joy:“That is not the case (She emphasizes her voice). If that was the case, the media would have found something already. We filmed for 8 months. For that 8 months, there weren’t any news. This news is probably done with. Since the beginning I have been honest that there is no truth in this story. Since the beginning to the end, I will say this, it’s really nothing.”—there you have it, Joy and Chakrit have never gotten together.
Did you fear people might look at you with a keen eye?
Joy:“I wasn’t scared, I have said it from the beginning since we started filming, there was nothing. Up to this point, it has been a long time, there is nothing. Really. It has ended already. I’m not afraid–we have not met up, we have done anything together.”
There have been news that you have been a downgraded actress, do you feel resentful towards the channel elders?
Joy:“I don’t feel anything, I’ve never thought of myself as a nang’ek at a certain level. I’m just another actress, I have always gotten work. The people who work with me know that I work everyday. I don’t feel like I should be consistently working on lakorns, one after another. I don’t think I can handle the workload. There are other things to attend to. There are a lot of things I must do, I can’t focus just on lakorns.”
Now there a lot of youngsters starting out in the business, what kind of advice would you give them?
Joy:“Do the best work you can do. Don’t be concern about your current status or what you have to be. You should find pleasure in the work you do. Every day you should be happy and try your best, so that people who work with you don’t have to be stressed. If viewers like it, that’s enough. Don’t hope to be this or that. Don’t aim to be anything, the work you do is the most important thing.”
Have you ever thought about demanding more nang’ek roles?
Joy:“No, I have not. I have never thought of myself as a nang’ek since the beginning. I work as a lakorn actress, I have never thought about my level as an actress. The most important thing is work, I have never thought I should be a certain this or that.”
You have been working so hard, have you completely forgotten your love life?
Joy:“Really, I don’t have the time (laughs). Every day, after I finish with work, I go home and sleep until the morning. When I get up, I have to go to work again. I’m lazy to talk to people on the phone. I’m lazy to go to the movies, I have not been to the movies in a long time. It has been more than 2 years. I feel like I have to analyze my character and practice my script for work, for shows, and for events. The rest of the time, I must take care of myself.”
You have been single up to now, is it because you fear negative news?
Joy:“I usually don’t care much about the news, I am my own person. I have not done anything to make myself lose face, that is more than enough. There is the right way and the wrong way, you can’t cling yourself to others and make them decide for you. I don’t have because I don’t want one. To live like this, it is much easier. I have devoted myself to work and my family. I do fitness and go to spas, just doing that I’m happy. I feel like I don’t need a boyfriend at all. “
Presently has anyone stirred an interest in your heart?
Joy:“There are men who call me, to chat. I talk to them, I don’t talk to them, I have not thought of anyone as a boyfriend. Everyone I have talked to have been friends, just that. There is no one I consider my special someone.”
Your mother doesn’t pressure you?”
Joy:“Regarding this, my mother doesn’t fuss about it. She doesn’t even care. In my household we don’t take this issue seriously, it’s not important to have a boyfriend.”
Do you fear finding love?
Joy:”No, I don’t fear it. There is nothing scary about it. Everyday I’m happy as I am.”
At present, how do you regard love, has its meaning been lowered in your life?
Joy:”The most important love is family, that’s how I think of it. I think there are several types of love, there is the love you have for a co-worker. I think the love you have for your significant other is not the most important love in this world. There are other types of love that is more important.”
What type of man will conquer your heart?
Joy:“I can’t answer that question (laughs). I think fundamentally I want a nice guy, as for other things I don’t know. Everyone is different, when you get to know them, then you will know whether that person is the one or not.”
This interview is from TV- Inside magazine’s May 2009 issue.

I thought that Joy was wonderful acting as nang rai cuz I think she fit that role better. I never like her as nang ek.
one hot lady!!!
joy is so pretty i for one love her advice and her fashion hope she lasts long in her acting career.
joy is so gorgeous in this spread. i really did want her and Krit to work out back when they were together, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Krit still needed some growing up to do (i think he’s finally getting to that point).
i hope Joy finds herself someone that makes her happy. She is a great role model and wonderful actress.
Wow, she’s definitely one of those role models who actually have a public and private life. Some people don’t realize that celebrities are just like everybody else. What they do…. is work. It’s business, nothing more.
I thought Joy & Chakrit dated before…many years ago.
She’s gorgeous! It surprised me to see her playing the nang’rai role as well. Loved her Barn Sai Tong.
I totally agree with XOX. She is wonderful as nang’ek and nang’rai. I would rather see her as nang’ek if I have a say in it. Regardless, she is a great actress.
She’s soo pretty…
i love joy. the very first nang’rai role of hers i’ve
seen in was JLR. i was quite shock because i was like “since
when did she started acting as the nang’rai?!” because i like
her as the nang’ek. but it’s great, because she’s one of those
actress who can switch on and off between roles. she’s very
talented as a host, model, and actresses. she sounds very
modest and care-free. i love her in interviews [like for JLR],
she’s so open and bubbly about everything. she’s just one of
those celebrities who doesn’t need scandals to keep her fame
and career. she’s what i call “independent”. :0)
btw; she does kinda look like leona lewis. the lips, eyes,
and face-shape.
I like how Joy separates her work and personal life, and never lets the two interfere; unlike her n’rai roles, she is very scandal-free. She is one of the few remaining n’rais who actually know how to act.
i loove her answers
shes sounds like a chill person
She looks a lot like Leona Lewis.
Sounds like a classy lady. She will last in this industry for a long time.
