What is up with Asian people in general with light skin? Being light represents purity, honesty and is aesthetically preferable. I personally prefer my men well-tanned, glowing and dark. I’m not a fan of light skin, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with having light complexion, but forcing yourself to be light by avoiding the sun or thinking about getting whitening injections, clearly that is not healthy. Come on people, embrace your skin complexion whatever shade it may be.
Ch3′s Great Warintorn is one of those dark skinned actors who is trying to be lighter. In the past, Great even thought of getting whitening injections. Smartly, after researching, he opted not to because of the side effects.
Lately, Great is making an effort to avoid the sun, taking lots of vitamins, and wearing a lot of sunscreen to lighten his skin complexion. I’m happy he is taking good care of his skin but the motivation behind it is not to my liking.
Well, I’m Asian, but I’ve been all over the world, and I can say that it isn’t only Asians who try to be lighter. When I was in Haiti, blacks were discriminating against ‘blacker skin blacks’, and the lighter the skin, the better in their minds. It was really strange because even the lighter skin blacks in Haiti would have been discriminated against in Asian countries, but in Haiti they held a certain social status based on their supposed lighter skin tones.
I found it utterly strange since I grew up in America and Euro-centric attitudes towards skin color is to have a healthy connplection, which normally meant sun-kissed, if not necessarily dark, skin. I do beg to differ that lighter skin races want darker skin–they don’t in general–they just want healthy complexions which normally means a slight tan–my caucasian friends actually find white Americans who are overly tan to be unsightly.
The verdict is out for me if Asians are doing this to themselves due to some underlying racism issues.
Well everyone in my family tries to get white, my male cousins also. I try to stay light, i wear sweaters and put my hood on in 30 degree weather, i also wear tons of sunscreen too.
I’m actually kinda like that… I try to cover myself from the sun because I don’t like tan lines, I don’t want to age my skin to much and I don’t want skin cancer… I don’t freak out when the sun is out I just make sure I don’t get burnt. I don’t believe in global warming but our weather and sun sure has changed. And we had nothing to do with that. lol =P
Is skin whitening really safe, or just a romour.
i say do what ever the hell you want, its a free country, lets just all acept that it in the human nature never to be satisfied or content, no matter what we do people will always want somthing they dont have. in this case light skin
it’s so weird, light people want to become darker, dark people want to become lighter…can’t we just all love the color skin we were born with??

don’t they know that the perfect man is suppose to be “tall, DARK, and handsome”!!! you may be tall and handsome, but if you aren’t DARK, you aren’t the perfect man. =D
