Lightning strike kills 3

…at a filming location for “Yam Yasothon 2 (eng title: Hello, Yasothon 2)” in Phanom Phrai, Roi Et province this past Saturday, July 11th. The director and the star of the film, Mum Jokmok aka Petchthai Wongkamlao was not there when the accident occurred. He was at a different location, quite far from the scene of the accident. He did hear the storm and lightning strikes, so he gave an order to cancel filming for the day. If filmed that day, at that location, it would have been the farewell scene between the nang’ek and the pra’ek.

The accident occurred at a farm in Phanom Phrai. It started to rain so the owners of the farm took shelter under their livestock stable; the “Yam Yasothon 2″ filming crew members ran for cover to a shack, 50 meters away. There was a loud thunder which scared everyone and then the frantic cries of a child was heard. Everyone followed the sound of a child crying and found 3 dead bodies, which included Phaibun Songchalee (75), the owner of the farm, his wife Patma Songchalee (61), and their daughter Wanlapa Songchalee (27). Miraculously, Wanlapa’s 2 year old daughter Apinyapon Inthawong survived.

Mum Jokmok was at his hotel in Yasothon when he learned about the deaths of Phaibun and his family. Mum was in a state of shock. He said Phaibun and his family were good people. They did not make a fuss about the fee to rent their farm for filming. As long as Mum filmed there, they would be happy, they said. Mum has never met Phaibun and his family. He would have met them that day, if it didn’t rain.

Mum plans to pay and be a key member for their funerals. Filming for “Yam Yasothon 2″ will continue, said Mum.
