One of my all time favorite lakorn would have to be “Taung Pan Gammathep (Cupid’s passage way, Cupid’s path, ทางผ่านกามเทพ)” starring Janie Tienposuwan and Andrew Gregson. It aired back in 2001 on Ch3 when Janie still had her old nose and Andrew was slender. You could not grasp how obsessed I use to be about this lakorn. I have watched it 3 times now, full runs, not just random favorite scenes. For me, I consider that a lot of hours devoted to one lakorn and I have never watch a lakorn more than once, maybe select scenes, I do.
A scene that I distinctively remember and occasionally go back to watch because it is that good is the marriage proposal scene. It was pure entertainment and intense. It wasn’t a marriage proposal, it was more of a bargaining plan, an option she can choose because she stole 1 million baht ($29, 779 USD) from him. Her evil sister played by “Aom” Sakawjai Poolsawas needed cash badly because she was being blackmailed by the guy villain of the lakorn or maybe she was in debt with the mob. I don’t remember, I didn’t care too much about her. All we need to know is that Janie needed money to help her evil sister and she stole that money from Andrew. When he found out, he was livid and felt betrayed but still he wanted her. What is the guy to do? He forced her into marriage that’s what he did. HAHA. LOVES it!
Janie is Pat in the series and Andrew is Pope, they are in-laws. Her sister Pim (Aom Sakawjai) is married to his father played by Montree JenAksorn, the man currently playing Ploy Cherman’s father in “Namtan Mai (Burnt Sugar)”. If you want to be technical, Janie is Pope’s aunt by marriage. Kinda weird.
At the beginning of the lakorn, Pope (Andrew) returns from studying aboard and learns his father has left his beloved stepmother to marry a woman who is half his age. He considers his new younger stepmother a gold-digger.To get back at his father, on the day of his father’s wedding, he organized a plan to kidnap the bride and make his father lose face. Being stood up at the altar is humiliating and Pope wanted to humiliated his father to the utmost. One problem, he kidnapped the wrong person, he kidnapped her younger sister Pat (Janie) instead. He takes her to his private island and held her captive for several weeks as his father, unbeknowst to Pope, honeymooned with his new bride in Europe. Gradually, Pope falls in love with his captive Pat because she is not the woman he was expecting, Pat is a lovely woman who can cook and be nurturing, drastically different from her older sister Pim, but he doesn’t know that at this point.

In episode 5 he releases Pat when he gets a letter from his younger sister stating that their father was in a car accident while honeymooning in Europe. After reading the letter he looks at Pat and realizes he kidnapped the wrong woman. When he dropped her off at her house, he looks down and asked, ‘before you leave, can you tell me if you are the real Khun Pimonpa (her older sister) or not?’
“I can be whoever you want me to be.” She answered. She said her goodbyes and got out of the car, leaving him feeling guilty for what he had done. GOOD, GOOD scene.
