“Tanya” Tanyares Ramnarong’s daughter was born back in June via a surrogate, one of her relatives from America. This past Sunday, Tanya appeared on the “Woody Gert Ma Kui ( Woody born to Chat)”show to show off her daughter for all of Thailand to see.
The instant she saw her child, she felt an instant ‘love’ for her daughter to whom she did not carry in her womb. There is no difference, Tanya told Woody. Whether she carry the child in her womb or not, Leeya is her daughter. Genetically speaking, Leeya is her daughter with her husband “Pek” Sanchai Engtrakul though they did not have Leeya the ‘natural’ way.
On the show, Tanya talked about her frequent miscarriages. She would easily get pregnant, however carrying the child to full term was another matter. After 2-3 months, she would suffer a miscarriage. She and her husband even tried in vitro fertilization, but plantation of her fertilized eggs onto her uterus was never successful. Tanya found the process troubling. Physically, it was painful. Emotionally, it was tiring to create life and have it quickly be taken away. It also became a moral issue. Those embryos and fetuses she could not carry to full term were living beings. Each failure represented a life lost.
The next option, getting a surrogate. To do something like this, Tanya had to find someone to who she trusted the most and was very close with. That person was her cousin Michelle from America.
Tanya on Woody’s show:
Wow, you learn something new everyday. The sex of Tanya’s child was predetermined. I thought it was illegal to do that in America. Tanya said that she had 5 fertilized egg frozen 2 years ago. Three of those five were ‘good’, meaning they are implantable. The sex of those embryos were predetermined, 2 boys and 1 girl.
The doctor decided to implant a boy determined embryo and a girl embryo onto Michelle’s uterus. If both embryos attached itself to Michelle’s uterus, Tanya could have been a mother of fraternal boy and girl twins. But only the girl embryo survived and that is how she got her daughter.
Tanya does want to try again. She has one embryo left, a boy. If it’s not successful the second time around, she is fine with it. She is happy to have Leeya.

Leeya is as beautiful as her mother…Congrats!
Yes I will be happy if I am her
But No I will never bring my daughter to everyone on TV when she’s barely 3 months old. Loving her for real is one thing. Showing off because she has a baby and wants to play the good mother game is another thing.
That is one cute baby!
Is Tanya half-white (judging by her relatives)? I never knew that.
Good, no more Lydia and her boring cooking lesson…woo hoo!
Congrad, for the new parents, Tanya and Pek.
Yes, Soni…that’s correct.
Basically, the egg was taken from the mother and the sperm taken from the father. Both are put together until the cell starts to divide and are than place into the surrogate mother’s uterus. From there, the growth of the fetus continues until he/she is delivered.
I’m surprised that she tried so many methods. It must cost her a lot because I know for a fact that vitro fertilization cost around $20,000.
Well congrats to Tanya and her husband. Leeya must have been their precious gift!
I believe the baby has both Tanya’s and her husband’s DNA, not the cousin. The egg is Tanya’s and the sperm is from the father. The egg and sperm are then put together and placed in the cousin’s uterus. The cousin then carried the baby to term and then gave birth. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I forgot to state that although I feel sorry for all her baby failures, I’m happy for her now that she’s finally got a baby. (: It is physically and emotionally stressful to try and have a kid and have it turn out unsuccessful. [not that I would know, because I've never had a kid. but i'm just saying.]
Oh wow! That’s crazy. I really do feel sorry for her. My aunt has been married for 20+ years now, and can’t have a kid. So this January of 2009, she adopted a baby girl [who's biologically half Laos and half Hmong]. So basically, they implanted Tanya’s husband’s sperm into Tanya’s cousin Michelle right?? Is that how it works?? Because I’m clueless when it comes to things like this. So does that mean the baby would carry Pek and Michelle’s dna’s/genes?? Instead of Tanya’s??
Well you can’t really say that she picked the sex of her child. All eggs will either be male or female right? She had both implanted but only the girl survive so how can we say that she “picked” the sex of her child. You can say that God pick the sex of her child since the girl survive, although it would be better if both did. Picking the sex of the child would be like her planting both boys and leaving the girl. Did it say why there’s only 3 eggs?
^^well, it’s not likely that any parent can choose the sex of their child unless you have science interfering with nature. I’m referring more so to having nature take it’s course, not necessarily religion.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with choosing the sex of your child. It is a personal decision not a religious decision. I’m happy for her and her husband.
Congrats to Tanya for having such a cute baby girl. May God bless the child.
I’m a pro-lifer, so I applaud what she did. A fetus, no matter how small or short lived is in fact a human being, practically a baby. I accept God’s gifts in any forms they come in, so I’m not too impressed when I read that the sex of the baby was predetermined. True, she couldn’t bear the pregnancy naturally; that’s why science had to intervene, but when it comes to the sex of a child, that should have been up to God.
Baby Leeya’s so pretty (:
i agreed with jessie. the whole episode(4) was awesome, especially toward the end. i’m so happy for Tanya & her husband. Baby Leeya is so cute/adorable. God bless Tanya’s cousin Michelle for doing this for them in order for Tanya’s wish of being a mother came true. This shows how precise of being a mother/father is. It’s so sad how some people abandoned/killed their babies when some couple tried so hard to have one. Baby is a God’s gift to be cherished & loved, not something that to be taken for granted.
I’m so happy for Tanya! Her daughter is so adorable. I watched that episode of Woody and at the end…it’s just priceless! You all should watch for yourselves
