Come on now, another icky lakorn is being remade. Why? I’ll pass on this one also. An older man with multiple wives is just not my cup of tea. “Mongkut Dok Som (The orange blossom crown)” from 1996 is a lakorn about a Thai man of Chinese heritage who has 4 wives ranging from old to young, it is the Thai lakorn version of Zhang Yimou’s acclaimed film, “Raise the red lantern.”
This version will have “Nok” Chatchai Plengpanich be the patriarch of this dysfunctional family. His first wife is played by Jariya Anfone (she is an older woman roughly around her mid 50′s). “Joy” Rilanee Sripen is the beautiful, sassy second wife who is having an affair, I believe in the Thai lakorn and in the film, she is killed off. “Nampueng” Nattharika Thammapreedanan is the third wife. On the surface she appears kind and gentle, really she is cunning and evil. In the original 1996 version, Nampueng was the nang’ek and the third wife. For this version, she is playing the main villain who is the second wife. How ironic. The youngest, the fourth wife, and the nang’ek of this lakorn is played by “Gybzy” Wanida Termthanaporn.

They all look really beautiful! Their hair! <3
I’m glad people are looking forward to this.
BIG FAN OF nampeung.
will watch.but ime saden that she is playing evil MOMMY. lol And omg im so tired of seeing nok. >.> Joy, i believe she can PULL it off well. As for the nang ek, she looks sumwhat innocent and wannabee. Anyhow, *sigh* nampeung was Great in Mon Ruk. i miss seeing her as the nang ek.
and eww im disturb by wanida looking like a freaken daughter to him. she looks to blah for the role.
Some lakorn are better left unmake (no remake), that is what I thinks.
sally, thank you for the correction. I do agree that Nampueng is the third wife and Joy is the second, however, i’m not sure who is having the affair. According to the movie, the sassy wife does.
I’ll update it when the lakorn airs which won’t be for another 4-6 months.
Hmmm, i don’t know about this lakorn i might watch it when i’m bored but i’m guessing this will not earn ch3 higher ratings, unless people like to watch creepy dramas!
i miss Joy R. on screen as nang’ek!..wish she could have had a nang’ek role instead. she does very well being nang’rai these past lakorns but it’d be nice to have her back on a couple nang’ek role’s…=D
OMG..I just watched Raise the Red Lantern last week. I hope its better in the Thai version than the chinese version.
OMG!
a remake version of the old one which is a version of “raise the red lantern”?
interesting…i watched tat chinese film in my senior year of high school, n oh my god!
it was so borin cus thea would alwaise b these long silent parts n all tat stuff..
but i guess it represents the loneliness of the wives lives in tat house…
Besides…what’s up with Chatchai. He always get the role with the young girl like in “Nampeong Kom” aring this Friday.
Lyn,
Can u check it again If I’m right because I thought “Nampoeng Natharika” will play the third wife who play “Ngiw” (Chinese Opera)and was killed off at the end after found cheating the old man. Her name was Rose in the old version. The second wife is Joy Rinlanee instead.
Besides guys, Don’t judge it yet. The old version was WAy good. It was the lakorn that made Nampoeng popular back then. She had another hit called “Moon Ruk Look Tung”. She was so famous back then and I was in Cambodia during that time and everybody in Cambodia loves her (by the way I’m Cambodian came to the states in 2002).
EAch character plays their roles well. I’m gonna watch this since the casts are absolutely awesome.
Btw, I thought that was Cherry at first glance. Haha
Aww. Nong Jean from “something something Olawan”, forgot the title, is in this lakorn. She’s super duper cute!! Hmm.. Don’t know about this lakorn. It’s a maybe on my list.
The old version was GOOOOD! Don’t be fooled by the old man w many wives ick factor. The story is more about the women, their dynamics together, and their desires in life. My favorite character is the 3rd w, Rose. She was a Hoot to watch! There’s a lot of good drama, humor, and angst and the twist in the ending was very unexpected. I can’t say how this version is going to be… Look what happened w the Prasard Meurd remake… Its definitely not for those who like the romantic or standard dramas. But its an interesting and suspenseful lakorn.
WOW! Look very interesting. I think I going to like this lakorn.
A lot of Thai netizens are actually looking forward to this. A lot of you might not like the storyline, but this lakorn is close to being a classic. I was really young back then like elementary school age, but I still remember this lakorn. There are some haunting scenes that really get stuck in your memories. Nampeung really got a breakthrough with her role in this lakorn back then.
