I was gushing over these pictures of ‘Boy’ Pisanu Nimsakul holding a baby at sanook forum. I had my ‘aw cute’ moment for the day! Cute baby, adorable looking guy with talent, it can’t get any better than this. Then I read the caption, “this is something that many of you might not understand; however, I want to tell you, the people who will understand are the people who have gone and see the film ‘October Sonata’ na ja.” Hm? What does that mean, I have to watch the film to understand the meaning behind these pictures. Okay.

I know a  little bit about the film. It some sappy romantic drama about a girl played by “Koy” Ratchawin Wongviriya who falls in love with a guy she met last Tuesday (I mean briefly) played  by newcomer Thanawat Wattanapoom. They met at the wrong moment because he is going to study aboard for 2 years. So to keep their relationship going, they promise to meet each other again at their spot, a house near the beach two years from now on October 8th. While her lover is away, Koy meets “Boy” Pisanu Nimsakul’s character, a Chinese-Thai college student who madly falls in love with her. He pursues her, she remains true to her lover. Two years quickly went by and October 8th, rolls around, the day she will see her lover again to whom she has been waiting diligently and with loyalty.  But…Dum…dum…DuMMmm…he never shows up. Aw man, what a bummer.

There is this part in the trailer of Boy confronting Koy to make her come to her senses because that guy is never gonna show up, she needs to move on.

Boy:”That guy probably doesn’t love you. Last year, you waited for him but he never showed up. Saeng-Jan (Koy’s character), how long have you waited for him, has he ever called you, how long will you wait for a man who doesn’t exist.”

Then we see Koy crying and screaming in her car late at night. –Okay, I don’t know her.

“This man here, he exists, you know him, and he loves you every day, every month, every year, and every minute TOO, ” Boy continues to tell her with tears in his eyes. Aw!

These types of movies are not too complicated, I have feeling she did come to her senses and started to date Boy and had a baby with him. Then her ex-lover Thanawat Wattanapoom came back after years of being away, which creates tension between Boy and Koy. And that is our movie conflict kids.

Or Koy does continue to wait and Thanawat does shows up again. They argue a little because she was resentful of him for having to wait all these years, but eventually he is able to win her over again like a magician with magic tricks. I’m just kidding with the magic tricks, the tone for this film is too INTENSE, sorry kids, no magicians or magic tricks for you. Maybe next time, if you’re good. Okay, back to the film, Thanawat and Koy are back together again and she becomes pregnant. But OH NO, he has cancer or some incurable illness. You can tell I watch way too many Korean dramas. The reason he was away all those years was to get treatment, when he thought he was cured he came back to Thailand. Near the end, he dies and Koy gives birth and Boy is there for her.

Either way, in both my made-up scenarios, like what Maury Povich says on his show–”Boy Pisanu, you are the father.” Biologically or not, it’s irrelevant. That is just my two cents on how the story will go.

The film was release nationwide in Thailand on December 23, 2009. It’s Thai title is ‘Ruk Tee Ror Koi (Love that waits)’. I prefer the literally English translated title better than ‘October Sonata,’ what does that even mean?
