There has been two articles from Thairath newspaper describing Noon Woranuch and “Aum” Patcharapa Chaichuea’s lakorn “Kulap Neua Mek (Roses Above the cloud)” as a bad influence on kids and inappropriate for society. Advocate against the lakorn say it promotes sex, violence, and inappropriate behavior–they disapprove of Aum and Noon’s body hugging clothes and short skirts and the constant verbal and physical fighting from Aum and Noon over one guy.
It’s a big debate right now generating hundreds of comments from the public at Kapook.com where the article has been re-posted.
Both articles here and here in Thai. One article is about local market merchants discussing how the lakorn “Roses above the cloud” is bad for their children and how they are seeing big behavioral changes in their kids after watching the lakorn. Apparently some of the kids are imitating what they see. The other article is about how this lakorn is dangerous for kids.
It’s just a lakorn. However, I wouldn’t mind them cutting back on the bitch slapping between Aum and Noon, usually I don’t mind, but it’s just way too much. As one person mentioned in the comment section (comment #476), “in the lakorn, they have to slap each other every 5 minutes over a guy (the person used “husband”), it’s just sex and violence throughout the whole story. To watch it, it terrifies the mind.” As for the clothes, it is pretty skimpy. Again, normally I don’t mind, but as their characters in the lakorn are career women who own a magazine company, they could at least wear a business suit once in awhile or skirts that fall below the knee. I actually want to be more crude, but I’ll keep my opinions to myself. “Kulap Neua Mek (Roses Above the cloud)” is not bad or good, it’s just a lakorn. It just seems like Ch7 is always in trouble with the public. Kom Faek was too violent. Mia Luang is bad for society and promotes extramarital affairs. Shrugs. I don’t watch lakorns to gain any life lessons, I watch lakorns for pure enjoyment. I do see merits in their concerns; however, I do think they are overacting.
It was mentioned in the comment section that Thai lakorns is going down in the dumpster where as Korean dramas, which don’t have crazy bitch slaps are rising in popularity, and all of Thailand loves Korean dramas. Oh great, the big debate wages on, is Korean dramas better than Thai lakorns?
I’ll translate the full article and comments when I get back. Or not.

Actually i like thai lakorn more than korean drama cause i just like to see some action in thai lakorn compared to korean drama where its super slow and there are wayyyy toooo many ep to watch. I’ll always support thai lakorn
and i am a big fan of them!
Thai lakorns are much better than Korean dramas. I can see some lakorns are influenced by kdramas but kdramas will never compare to lakorns. kdramas are too slow and they can’t build up the drama like lakorns.
People need to realize this is lakorn..in reality this does happens in real life drama, however as a parent if you know the lakorn or movie is rated “R” or its not appropriate for a child to watch then they should advised their child not to watch it, Parents cannot always blame the channel for airing the shows nor the actors/actresses. The actors/actresses are doing their job thats what they are paid for and to do the best job they can. As for the clothes those are provided for the show, yeah some celebrities like to wear skimpy clothes, well thats their choice. If parents dont want their kids to wear skimpy clothes then why did they buy it for them in the first place knowingly it is not appropriate. Also i agree kids do get influenced by the things they see in TV, however with that being said does the parent not know, it does not always come from tv, it can be from their peers,ad, or magazines???!
Also it does tell you in the beginning of the shows that this lakorn/movies does contains sexual,or explicit language parental descretion is advised. I’m positive it also mention in Thai as well. so for the people that always play the blame game, you need to take a step back and realize maybe if you control what your child is watching then maybe your kid would not be so influenced so much by TV and explained to them what they see in tv its just a show..also kids need to be around people that are good influenced.
Here in America they have shows, movies, ads and magazine whatever you can think of that exploit sex content, drugs, extramarital affairs you name it. I think they just wayyyyyyy overaccting and besides i like watching the lakorns, dont mind the bitch slapping and i thinks it’s just entertaining.if people dont like it then why bother wasting your time watching it.duh..change the channel and watch something that fits within your standards. anyways this is just my opinion. lol
I watch a little here and there and this lakorn make me sick..I can’t help but get very irritated because it seems like their characters are a joke…All I see are slap and bitching…voilence here and there and I see no story line, no point in this drama at all. I feel that both are trying TOO MUCH and it just kill everything. Sometime it’s exciting for two beauties to fight but you get tired of it because it was WAY OVERDUE!
I don’t even know what’s the point in this drama…when i see two big-star beauty in a drama, I expect it to be good and worth watching but this one does come close…
I just wanna bitch-slapped them and knock some sense into them…Both are acting like bitches, unlike na’eked…They over did it. There’s no meaning in watching this lakorn…I don’t know how someone could sit around and watch an 1 hour of it…??
Im not Thai nor Korean but nowadays i prefer watching Thai movies more than Korean dramma. Although Thai dramma may have rape scenes, slap and kiss or fighting or may have less sound quality compared to Korean ones, they are more entertained and enjoyable. My expectation for a dramma is a happy ending for the leading couples therefore many times i was so dissappointed when watching the whole Korean dramma and going to bed with a sad feeling…besides they have same stories again and again….If i have to choose between T and K, i definitely stick to Thai dramma.
it started off ok; now its not going anywhere!!!!
well i got to say i think thai drama are much beeter.. even if the have slap, and kisses – comedy in there it is more entertaining to watch more than some sad drama were the girls alway died at the end or. so no offend to korean drama but i think that thai drama are way better!
its sad how they cant find a better script nowadays so they gotta have 2 talentaed n’ek bitch slap each other and show some skin in hoping to receive good rating but apparently its not working
Quite frankly I prefer Thai lakorns.
I know what I’m going to get with a lakorn and that’s why I like them so much. High drama and a happy ending for the lead couple. And maybe even a couple of nang’rai beat downs, if I’m lucky.
It’s pretty much a toss up with Korean dramas. Just because it’s classified as a romance doesn’t guarantee a happy ending or even a decent one. I hate watching a drama for 16+ episodes only to have the leading couple not end up together. Or for somebody to die. And that just seems to be the overall theme of many Korean dramas.
But the same could be said for lakorns. Twin lakorns, revenge lakorns, etc. all share the same basic story lines. I wouldn’t compare the two, because each are entertaining in their own right and are also very different from one another.
I agree with Fun on this, the storyline was interesting in the beginning then it just kinda went downhilll for me too.. I’ll just skip to watch the last episode.. Korean dramas are just way too long for me, not into it.
okay i just got to say this… i dont think i will be watching this one. because i feel like all im going to see are two stick figures fighting back and fourth.
you can’t really compare Thai lakorns to Korean dramas, the same way that i don’t compare our country’s dramas to Korean dramas too because their budget per dramas are really BIG hence the good quality on screen and audio.Koreans do that because they EXPORT their dramas, that is their BUSINESS so to speak so they have to make it good. I have to admit though that i do get fed up with Korean dramas (probably because i have been watching too much lately), i can see the same expression from all actors already..lol…and they also have their bloopers moment..
From the moment i started watching lakorns, i have come to realize that i can learn something from lakorns too, and that is:WHAT NOT TO DO IN REAL LIFE! I mean really…they get fussy about clothes and bitch slapping but they are OKAY with RAPE SCENES and the lead actor beating the lead actress to a pulp (add torture)..
i have not watched that movie yet. my friend told me that was funny and she also like it.
i can’t lie, i enjoy this lakorn more than the rest of the other lakorns out there right now. maybe becuase its so fiesty and it has some good usable comebacks that i can save for future girls that wanna go. hahahha.
you can’t really compare thai to korean dramas. korean dramas are definitely more popular due to the fact that the quality is superb – from sound to the quality of the dramas when they’re uploaded. super crisp and clear an dtheir sounds are amazing ( sound as in when they are talking in a car, theirs no outside sound. watch a driving scene in a thai lakorn and a korean drama…korean is better right)
(i’m thai by the way)
I haven’t watch this lakorn, but I NOT a fan of Korean Drama. I am a Thai Lakorn FAN! Korean Drama is always the same.
