Gap comes to Thailand

Rita and Kao

And several young Thai stars took part in the fashion show for the grand opening of the Gap Store at Central World yesterday.

Gap is doing well for itself, opening its first store in China and Italy and expanding its Banana Republic branch in Europe. Good. I’m a Gap and Old Navy shopper. I support.

I have to say, everyone looks depressed–from Bee Namthip to Boy Pakorn to Gun “Fluke” Kantathaworn to Woonsen to Nadech. Is it just me or is Kao the only person who looks happy? What’s the instruction for this fashion show…everyone just make it look like you’re going to a funeral. That’s the concept.

More pictures at the photographer’s personal page.

I think it’s that silly thing about how models aren’t supposed to smile at all because they’ll distract people from the clothes. It’s kinda dumb, you hire celebrities, let them smile! And this is the Gap, not a Prada Fall 2010 collection.

Lyn, you are quite right. lol it looks like everyone’s super depressed. i love gap and old navy, so more power to them just as long as they don’t go super expensive on me.

agree w/ #1. They’re famous celebs, not models. Kao looked mighty adorable.

I think they all look said including Kao; he looks like he is smiling but it’s a said smile. Gap has that way of making everyone depressed. If you had to wear those clothes that where either dirty co-ed or farm hand wouldn’t you be?

I’ve a feeling Gap will bomb in Thailand…. with all the copies available at 99Bht, who will want to buy a brand that is easily available in outlets and Jatujak?
The clothes are boring, too simple and most Thais won’t understand or appreciate its concept! Not if we have to pay 1490 Bht for a shirt! H & M will fair better here, that’s for sure.
I agree that all the celebrities looked stoned, depressed and bored… so sad for them, paying a bomb for them (30,000Bht each?) and getting all these…

I like Gap but I don’t think it suits Thailand because the style is too simple and not colorful lol. It suits western culture who like simplicity but Thailand…and why do they all look so depressed ?
