Two down, one more to go for young male stars who are up for the military draft lottery. Mario and Aof Chanapol will wait another year. Pirat “Mike” Nitipaisalkul is up next.
Just like last year, Mario Maurer is asking to be exempt from the military lottery, his excuse: work and school. Twenty-two year old Mario is a 2nd year student at Ramkhamhaeng University and is very busy actor. He has 3 films to promote and another that will start filming soon.
Unlike in Korea, where military service for all healthy males are mandatory, Thailand’s military draft is like a game of chance. It’s set-up as a lottery. Thai males who have reached the age of 21 and have not gone through the military reserve training must take part in a military draft lottery. You pick from a bag, if you pick a black card, you are exempt from military service for life. If you pick a red card, you must serve in the military for 2 years.
Mario about his delay:”I want to gamble too (meaning to risk picking the red card) because I want it to end today. However, after seeking advice from my elders, they said to work first. Right now, I’m working on 3 films, there is a lot of promotion work to be done. Then I’m waiting for 1 film to begin shooting. I want to serve my country too. I believe it is the responsibility of a Thai person, I see it as a normal thing. If I was to pick the red card, I would be a military person. In my heart, I’m ready.”

u don’t need to do it.. u might be in a risk situation!!! i think u can’t handle it all.. take care!!!
Lol, I agree with what Liberty said, if you have the money to pull those strings, then yes, it is possible to not go into the military. It’s easy and rich/powerful people does it all the time.
that true..they should do it like Korea….
I thought Mario has quit schooling? (temporary suspension) due to too much work?

I’m not sure, you can ask Thairath news about that.
Fans of actors who are turning 21… stop worrying! Remember “TIT” (This is Thailand) and anything can happen here…. look at previous examples of actors, sons of hi-so or important figures etc etc… They just pull strings and will “escape” army training, unlike S Korea, Singapore, Taiwan etc. Over here, whoever’s more powerful, richer, more famos or popular don’t have to worry too much! If you ask if it’s good? Well, good for these people who have the strings to pull! But probably “unfair” for those who doesn’t! More transparency and fairness please, THAILAND!!!
ohmygod.
thats so scary! oh no! mike & chin! are turning 21 this year ):
every country has a different system with the military .. so i wouldn’t say one is better than the other..
i agree with Muddie Murda’s reply hehe.. mario is indeed SWEET!!! XD
It’s not such a bad system. I love Mario’s reply though. He’s so sweet!
I love Mario!!!!!
That’s risky gambling..I feel scared for him..
and man, it seems like Thai men are meant to be tough and strict warriors..
out of many countries they just seem to be more into stuff..dangerous stuff.
heheeheh..funny!….i think they should be given a choice and i like how if u gamble and get a red card then 2 yrs!…..lol….gotta have good karma here then!..lol…hopes mario has it!…he probably does??
that so stupid. they should do like korea. that not unfair.
