One of Forbes 40 richest persons in Thailand and the managing director of Ch7, Khun Daeng Surang Prempree is please with the premier numbers for New Wongsakorn and “Cheer” Tikumporn Ritthapinan action lakorn “Nak Soo Pan Kaao Nieow (Sticky Rice Breed Warrior)” that aired this Monday, September 6. It will Wanida’s competitor for the Monday-Tuesday prime time line up. I think competitor is the wrong word choice here, it’s should be annihilator since Nak Soo Pan Kaao Nieow (Sticky Rice Breed Warrior)‘s TV rating numbers are doubled that of Wanida. Yikes for Wanida!
“Right now, I feel please with all the lakorns (the ones currently airing on Ch7). Most recently with “Nak Soo Pan Kaao Nieow (Sticky Rice Breed Warrior)” that aired yesterday. Its TV ratings went up to 16.4,” said Khun Daeng happily.
She smiled at the reporters and asked: “how is it? High enough?”
Then she laughed. Let me tell you, Khun Daeng is spunky.
Action lakorns seem to be the ‘it’ genre at the moment, thus Ch3 has come out with its own series of action lakorns to compete with Ch7. The most anticipated Ch3 action lakorn is “Koo Deuat (The Furious Duo)” with Aum Atichart and “Por” Nattawut Skidjai. The media wondered if Khun Daeng will premier “Lui” their most anticipated action lakorn at the same time as “Koo Deuat”. Khun Daeng said she has no intentions of competing with other channels.
“Regarding lakorns, I have no plans to have them compete with other lakorns. We do our own thing. I have never wanted to be compared to anyone. All our lakorns are good. We try our best and don’t want to be compared to anyone, especially the lakorn “Lui” that the media said I would have compete with “Koo Deuat”. That is not true. Don’t think like that. We have never created a series to compete with other series.”
Really. This is business. You have to compete.

I can understand the appeal of “Nak Soo Pan Kaao Nieow (Sticky Rice Breed Warrior)” to the masses of Thailand. It’s set in rural Thailand (where most Thais live), the main character is Isan (the largest group in Thailand), he obtains super strength as a child when he accidentally ate holy sticky rice (Thais are superstitious, not all, but most). I was not surprise by the TV ratings for this series at all.
Though the TV ratings for Ch7 maybe high, some Thais do not care. The quality of Ch7 lakorns are just awful.
“The ratings maybe high, but the quality sucks. I can’t handle it. I rather watch Wanida, it’s more relaxing. The song sounds better too,” said one Thai netizens at Manager.

This whole Ch thing does get everyone hyped up! LOL.. Honestly, I forget that lakorns, actors, and actress even have their own contracted Channels! No wonder sometimes I wonder to myself how come some actors can’t act with certain actress’s cause they aren’t within the same Ch. Either way, I’ll watch any lakorn for any channel as long as the actors and actress I like are the main leads!!. =D
I just tried to watch this infamous old version of wanida and I stopped at episode 3…too long too boring and I admit the picture was not so good. Actingwise old version is slightly better but chemistrywise they don’t beat the new version at all. Plus sorry but Aff here is not bad at all she even gives Miew a run for her money because Miew was boring.
Hmm how does Ch.3 stay in business with their constant low ratings? Also not sure about this in Thailand but do demos matter? Here in the US the money doesn’t come from total viewers. It’s determined by demos. No offense but it seems like viewers in Thai like action series or rape lakorns or Pancake’s lakorn. Lol
Argue what you want… it’s a fact that Ch 7 has higher ratings and make so much more money… It’s just a side of marketing and it’s really who your target audiences are… Ch 7 prefers the “majority” meaning the upcountry people… so let’s leave it as it is… for you Ch 3 viewers who snub at Up-country lakorns, well, just stick to your Ch3 forever and cross your fingers and hope that the more “sophisticated” Bangkokians will continue to support their lakorns. As for me, I watch any ch as long as it’s good. Of course I have my favorite actresses like Aum P, Kob S and Anne T, and I will also never watch lakorns that feature people I hate, like Aum Artichart…. But think of it this way… why do people produce these lakorns? TO MAKE MONEY!!!! So Khun Daeng is on the winning side! hahaha
NSPKN is actually pretty entertaining. I know a lot of folks don’t like action lakorns but Ch7 always does well for their action lakorns. =) Glad to see Cheer and New’s lakorn doing very well for the premiere episosde. Cheer is so cute! I became such a huge fan of her after meeting her in person.
i live near the south of thailand and have been to several places eg Narathiwat pattani, songkhla etc. the tv reception at these places except for Ch7 is very poor. Although i really want to watch ch3 i ended watching ch7 simply because of better pic. dont know if this only happen to me.
I remember Ch.7 lakorns being sooo much better than Ch.3 about 8 years ago when Brook, Kob, Por, Noon, etc. were the main actor and actress and before Kwan, Pancake, and Weir just started or didn’t enter the picture yet. I found them to be much more interesting and the actor/actress had a much more “nang’ek” and “pra’ek” quality to them (in my own eyes and opinion). Now, the storyline doesn’t seem to flow as well and the quality has gone down. The editing and camera quality is low; for example, in buang Rai Pai Ruk in episode 19 during the engagement. You can tell the mother is clearly edited in because you never see her in the picture with anyone else; they just edited her scene in and you just see her face alone; even when they were rushing to help her when he got a heart attack, you never see her face with other character(it looked like she didn’t appear to the shooting or something). I have seen that in other lakorns. I have tried to watch ch.7 lakorns but they are just not as good anymore.
I hate how everyone always say CH.7 lakorns are so bad and what not.. there are some actual decent lakorns, some I would prefer over CH.3. Same goes for CH.3 some I prefer over CH.7. I wished everyone was just like my parents and siblings..they don’t even care about the channel. They watch as long as the lakorn itself is good.. not because of the Channel. ><
Hahaha , that’s truuue Ch7 always have higher ratings , buuuut CH3 All the waaaay ! Wanida is helluh good ! && CH3 alwaays have the best lakorns in my opninion ! CH3 all the waaaay ! Pleaaase update us on CH3 more often !
I love how anything related to ch7 gets people so riled up. Lyn, you should post about ch7 more! It’s so much fun to read!
I’m quite sure that the people who put down ch7 haven’t even seen this lakorn. In fact, they probably haven’t watch any of ch7′s lakorn for ages because “ch3 lakorns are superior.” Now I’m not dismissing that fact. (One of my favorites lakorn is Sood Sanaeha <3) Some ch7 lakorns could do with better productions and scripts. But don’t lump all ch7 lakorn together. Likewise, don’t think all ch3 are great. Remember the new version of Koo Gum and Chaluey Suk? Not so fabulous. Both channels have their goods and bads. It irks me to see people jump on the “ch7 lakorns are trash” bandwagon when they probably haven’t seen more than a few.
calm down ppl. I think ch3 & ch7 know well that it would come out like this.
They have different style and different markets so I don’t think the rating would affect wanida that much.
Wanida is somewhat bourgeois lakorn so its market is not the whole Thai country anyway. They target some viewers mostly in Bangkok which I think it’s successful so far.
Sticky Rice Warrior is what we called ‘Luk Tung’ lakorn. The majority of Thais are country people, esp. in Northeast area. (see the map, you’d know that part of Thailand is the largest part of the whole country) The story is about local people in Northeast of Thailand. Localists love it.
You can see that ‘Luk Tung’ style would beat the rating no matter it airs in what channel. Ch3′s Luk Tung lakorns like Khun nu Chantana (it’s about factory workers) beated ch7 lakorn with so much higher rating.
Bourgeois lakorn would get not so much high rating no matter in what channels too. Reun Sorn Rak of Ch7 shows you guys that it’s neatly produced. The acting and the script are complicated. The lakorn is something like Henry James or Wordsworth works (something to analyse). But look at it’s rating, very low. Its philosophy’s too complicate for normal lakorn viewers.
I don’t want people argue about the quality of the lakorns. It’s just the style and markets.
Tik is wooden at times, but Aff is doing an amazing job in her role. Her eyes are very expressive to me. You cannot compare Aff’s Wanida to Mew’s Wanida because the character is written differently this time. Aff’s Wanida is bratty but at the same time fun and spunky unlike the arrogant and very mature personality that Mew portrayed. Regardless I think Aff and Mew played their roles very well. Aff’s and Tik’s chemistry is electric, they look wonderful together.
No Surprise. I love Tik and all but his comeback is lackluster, it probably has something to do with him being away from the screen for quite a long time thus his acting does not measure up to his previous lakorns. The old version was so much better in terms of acting, this one may be better quality but you can’t compare Aff’s acting to Mew or Tik’s to Tua at all.
Actually as much as we all don’t want to accept it, the ratings are accurate b/c one company, Nielsen (the same company that does U.S. tv ratings) does these ratings for all the Thai channels. It’s just the tv audiences, especially those in the provinces, in Thailand watch more of channel 7. They are loyal to them and can’t seem to switch channels, LOL. To me channel 3 and channel 5 has is better in quality and storyline.
As for Wanida, although I didn’t think that it would beat channel 7 ratings, I did think the ratings would be higher than this. Also, I agree with someone’s comment that although, this version is better in quality as far as picture, scenery, and costume, I think that Tik and Aff lack the “eye chemistry” that Saranyu and Mew had. I think that so far Saranyu did a better job in conveying his emotions through his eyes. Tik is ok for me (don’t shoot me Tik fans, it’s just one person’s opinion, LOL). I’m unable to feel his emotions through his eyes and to me, a quality of a good actor is being able to do this successfully. Aff, I think is doing a little better than Tik at expressing her emotions through her eyes. Regardless of this, this version of Wanida is still very good and I find the whole lakorn absolutely beautiful.
idk what the rating are..ch3 will always be my fav. forever…love wanida sooo far
