Mario Maurer to promote Korean tourism

That’s nice and all and good for him. The thing I found amusing is that Mario Maurer became popular in Korea because of his resemblance to Korean hottie actor Won Bin. Some Thai netizens believe he looks better than Won Bin. Blasphemy!  Others don’t want Thais to be compared to any other nationality. Thais look like Thais, that is good enough. NO need for a comparison. Then they were a few who argued about Mario’s skill as an actor. He’s stiff. Personally, I don’t think he is that bad in “Plerng Toranong (Flames of Arrogance)”, when his father passed away and he cried, I wanted to cry too. It was a good scene.

A snippet from the Korean Tourism website:

Thai singer and actor Mario Maurer is to be appointed as a promotional ambassador for Korean tourism by the Korea Tourism Organization.

The 23-year-old will make a four-day trip to the country along with four winners of a drawing competition named “Feel Korea with Mario” carried out by the Bangkok branch of the organization.

Mario’s entire itinerary will be filmed and broadcast on the popular Thai entertainment TV program “Surivipa Show” next month. Mario, who is of Thai and German descent, is one of Thailand’s top celebrities. He became popular in Korea due in part to his physical resemblance to one of the country’s leading movie stars and was dubbed “Thailand’s Won Bin” when he visited Korea in 2009.

Meanwhile, the number of Thai tourists who came to Korea last year jumped 37 percent to set a new record of 260,000.
