At the start of the year, the TV industry looked lively–the economy was prospering, the currency was strong, price was decent, everything looked good. Then, the great flooding occurred and everything went down hill. Even though the Thai television business is a strong industry, it was affected by the flooding–filming sights were flooded, production houses where editing took place flooded, stars’ houses were flooded. Luring advertisements, the industry’s bread and butter, was an issue. New projects, we shouldn’t even talk about them because they were swept away by the flood.

But though it all, Ch3 seems to be the victor in this crisis. There intensive coverage of the flood by newscaster Sorayut Sutatsanajinda from Ch3′s morning news show ”Ruang Lao Chao Nee (The issue for this morning or Morning News)’ and his contributions to the flood victims helped the channel gain more audiences. Ch3 lakorns were improving and their ratings were also improving comparable to their main competitor Ch7.
For the year, Ch7 produced 13 evening lakorns and 26 prime time lakorns, which brings their total to 39 lakorns. Ch5 produced 8 lakorns. Ch7 had 11 evening lakorns and 22 prime time lakorns, a total of 33 lakorns for the year. Modern 9 had 7 lakorns for the year.

Do I need to mention Modern 9 lakorns because I don’t think anyone watches their lakorns.
The lakorns up for consideration for the title of ‘Lakorn of the year’ are:
1.’Ruk Mai Mee Wan Tai (Love never dies)’ for its use of computer graphics and the chemistry of Ploy Chermarn and her ex-boyfriend and co-star Dome Pakorn.
2.’Dok Som See Tong (Golden Yellow Flower)’ for the character scandalous ‘Reya’ played by Chompoo Araya. Though it was a second installment of the series, it did better than the first, which is very unusual.
3. ‘Game Rai Game Ruk (An Evil game, a Love Game) for its excellent script.
4. ‘Seua Sang Fah (The Tiger orders the heaven)’ for its use of computer graphics in context with its mystical plotline–seriously, I thought it was corny.
In the end, the winner goes to ‘Dok Som See Tong’ of Ch3 for its strong plotline and media buzz and its impact on the future of all Ch3 lakorns. Because of the scandal involving racy love scenes and being heavily criticized by the Thai Culture Ministry, Ch3 has decided to ban all love scenes for their future lakorns.

BAN LOVE SCENES!? OH HECK NOOO! Without the love scenes, then what is the point for a lakorn?! This is what the audience live for by watching lakorns? Whoever that ban love scenes from a movie/lakorn/drama is stupid. PLAIN STUPID. Did they got hit by a rock or something?
–But anyways, since everyone poured what their best lakorn of the year is… I wanna say my idea for this year too! ;D
Hmm, I don’t think I like this year as much as others… Like, the probably best years for thai lakorns were probably back in 2007-2008. I think that was the time when better lakorns were made. Me spending time at ‘asianfuse.net’ I’ve found that there were going to be alot of remakes, but since there was a flood. Them remakes are going to be moved to this year (2012) … So 2012 is the year of remakes!? :0
I think I enjoyed Ruk Mai Mee Wan Tai the best but although it was kind of… ya know, damn, i dont know what the word is… But anyways, ploy acted kind of awkward with DOME.. (I SENSED IT, LOL)
All I’m thinking about right now is, what can the year of 2012 show us?
Thai love scenes (to me) were always acceptable because they are very PG-13. So why take them out for? That’s just unreasonable. So people that are “in love” in the dramas are never gonna get to express it??
I think this is why “everyone” loves ch7 because they always/most likely have love scene/lots of pra’nang time, which is what audiences want to see. They give people what they want to see which is why they have corny dramas but high ratings.
Also, Dok Som See Tong isn’t your usual lakorn. It’s definitely different and bizarre. DSST did ruin the way you look at Thai lakorns but I don’t think it should effect love scenes for future lakorns. How bout they just ban lust scenes? Lol.
omg!please don’t ban love scenes!!!!!its what makes thai lakorns so good!!>:(
Why make lakorns if love scenes are to be banned? It is after all, part of acting and people should keep in mind that it’s “only a lakorn”. I don’t understand why the media have to take it so seriously.
Oh and thanks Lyn for the list.
From CH3, I like Rak Mai Mee Wan Tai because of the interesting storyline and the pra’nangs’ chemistry. So far, from CH3, I like Saam Num Neua Thong.
From CH5, I like Kaam Waylaa. At one point, I thought Kularb Satan was better but it dragged after episode 20. Captain’s character in there was dumb. As for Kaam Waylaa, I liked it because it’s unique as it is a musical on TV. The plot was sort of dumb but interesting at the same time.
From CH7, I like Lily See Kularb. Why? Just because Cee was in it, lol…
and what`s with banning love scenes? Some of them are very sweet to watch and you do need some of that in lakorns and movies. I got no idea as to why love scenes should not be banned but I think they shouldn`t.
I don`t know what was in Dok Som See Tong to make love scenes banned but I am mad.
Game Rai Game Ruk was beyond brilliant! Nadech clearly showed his emotions and he did shed tears, especially in ep 18. Their chemistry was amazing and stronger than before and I like the script. The production was just excellent and it was the only lakorn that kept me watching this year.
LIKE LIKE LIKE
Game Rai Game Ruk for excellent script? Really? It was beyond ridiculous and way out there.
I didn’t think the script/storyline for GRGR was that great overall—especially 3 years later. However; the pra’nangs played their parts extremely well, along with a great director.
i kinda like Tawandheuad and Roimarn…and i think Roimarn also got nice script…
and the latest 3noom nea thong too since in every two episodes, they kinda add a moral value phase into the lakorn and make me gain something from it
To me best lakorn of the year was Roy Mai, because of the actors acting, the cultural portrayal, and the only one which made me cry.
Dok som see thong at first was interesting but at some point I found it kind of ridiculous and pointless since I had some problems with the characters’ characterisation.
Lol Game rai game ruk had one of worst scripts of the year and the acting was mediocre at best: Nadesh was decent but at some time boy must learn to shed tears and I couldn’t take him seriously when he physically assault the N’ek.
I love Tad Rak…Love Cherry and like Janie too.
For me the best lakorn was by far Game Rai, Game Ruk. The acting, script, production, scenery was all great, Nadech and Yaya are great together. Also loved Boy and Margie in Roi Marn. Not a fan of Chompoo Araya and don’t understand why she gets so much publicity to be honest. Also liked Pong and Noon in Ka Kong Kon at the start of the year. Not a bad year for lakorns but not as good as last year and 2008 was still the best for me.
i found mia taeng and roy mai average, quite boring at some point.
ugh, im so mad that ch3 had to ban their loves scene from now on! but its already obvious that Dok Som See Thong became lakorn of the year cause it was most talked about weather it be in a negative/positive way. way to go ch3! they are the king of remakes!
thanks
Best movie should go to Tawee Pope, it was funny and make me like om
thanks for the notable lists.
