Mia Luang still bad for Thai youth

This could just be nothing. But it is up for discussion.

Sathit Pitutecha (member of the Democratic party, the current ruling party of Thailand) is attempting to censor lakorns. He received demands from parents and many Thais claiming lakorns such as “Mia Luang (Head Wife)” and “Borisud Bumbat Kaen (The Revenge Therapy Company)” which just ended two weeks ago are bad for Thai children and Thai youths. The behaviors displayed in these lakorns are not “mor som” for the youth of Thailand, meaning it’s not appropriate for kids. Sathit Pitutecha and others fear Thai children and youths will mimic these types of ill behaviors and thus he wants to change the ratings methods for Thai TV. He wants to move the prime time lakorn time slot from 20:30 to 22:00 (8:30pm to 10pm). At 20:30, children are still awake and watching adult themed lakorns with their parents, he argued.

He is sending his concern to Teera Slukpetch, Thailand’s Minister of Culture, and to Sathit Wongnongtoei, the Prime Minister’s Office Minister for discussion.

I call this the unneeded “Save the Children” hysteria. Even at a young age, I knew right from wrong, I didn’t mimic what I saw on TV. They should give children more credit.

For those who are not watching “Mia Luang” or know nothing about it, it’s a lakorn starring Pok Piyatida, Aum Patcharapra, and Tui Theerapart about a married man who can’t keep his pants on. He loves his wife played by the talented Pok; however, he cheats on her and finds nothing wrong with his adulterous ways. He is currently sleeping with his children’s nanny and also seeing Aum Patcharapra’s character. His wife is an emotional wreck and doesn’t know how to mend their marital problems.

“Mia Luang” is a very popular lakorn, it airs every Monday and Tuesday on Ch7.

Help: New Theme

Oh for the love of marshmallows, how can finding a new theme be this difficult?!!! I want something simple, elegant and not fixed width. I’ve tried 20 themes already and nothing has caught my attention.

Any suggestions?

Though I love my old theme, it is time for a makeover.

My current theme, do you like?

UPDATE: The whiteness sorta bugs me too, this will have to do for now. I’m tired of looking for a new theme.I tried changing the side column’s background color to a different color other than white, it didn’t look right.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try to work with this layout to give it some color.

“Mia Luang” bad for Thai youth?

An old debate has reappear. Is Thai media bad for Thai youth? That is the question.

According to Kitti Samanthai, Director General of the Office of Welfare Promotion, Protection and Empowerment of Vulnerable Groups (OPP) part of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, media influence lifestyle, especially children and youth groups. Thai youths are exposed to violence, bad behavior, excessive materialism in media and they are mimicking those ills of society. Samanthai wants action and considers it a national duty to remedy this issue. In March, he wants to hold an assembly with relevant youth agencies, student representatives to create a network of young people working together to find ways to improve youth development and to present it to the government.

Kasem Chandranoi, assistant to the president of Eastern Asia University agrees with Kitti Samanthai that the media is very dangerous to young people because they are less mature and do not understand the repercussion of their actions. They become victims of media. Nowadays, TV is raising a child in place of a parent.

Kasem Chandaranoi finds the current lakorn “Mia Luang” starring Aum Patcharapra very worrisome because it shows inappropriate behavior. It puts an effort on parents to explain to their child what is right and wrong. Parents must take responsibility and Channel Elders must monitor what they show on TV. Also, there is too much smut in Media. Overly sexual images are used to sell projects, porn makes 7,000 million baht ($199.115 million USD) per year, digital media and the internet is also bad. The most important thing is to caught on to the Media’s tricks. In order to do so, you need the cooperation of the household and temples to help eliminate bad media and to create better media.

Don’t feel bad about “Mia Luang”, “Sawan Biang” was also discussed. The Deputy Secretary General of the Anti-Corruption Commission wondered why people cheered for Kawee in “Sawan Biang” to rape and impregnate Narin when they should be cheering for his arrest. He wants parents to reform the most and teach their children what’s right and wrong.

Thoughts? Thais had a lot to say about this topic, 200+ comments were left at Kapook Highlights within a few hours of the article’s posting.

Site Maintenance: organizing Lakorns/w Eng subs PAGE

For the next day or so, I will be working on organizing the Lakorns/w Eng subs PAGE. My plan is to create a post for all subbed lakorns and the Lakorns/w Eng subs PAGE will no longer have youtube links but rather links to a post of the lakorn.

An example on how the Lakorns w/Eng subs page will look like from now on..

Mae Ka Khanom Wan (Cherry and Mart): See Page. Updated 1/29/09

Borisud Bumbut Kaen (Aum and Ann): See Page. Updated 1/11/09

Leh Ratee (Pepper & Ann): See page. COMPLETED

An EXAMPLE on how the lakorn POST will look….

“Dum Kham (Tanned)”, Comedy/Romance, 2009, Ch7, Subbed by Thinkjaden

Plot:
Pong plays high society guy Tuthiya, a snobbish man from the city. Tangmoe plays Dum, a feisty girl from the country. Unbeknownst to them both, their fathers had engaged them since childhood.

Not wanting to marry Tuthiya, a man who looks down on country folks, Dum paints her body black and pretends to an uncultured woman to make Tuthiya despise her and break off their arrange marriage. Sure enough, he does.

Driving home, Tuthiya gets into a car accident and is rescued by Dum. She cares for him and when he wakes up, she realizes he has lost his memory. Ah huh! Play time! She mischievously takes advantage of this and takes Tuthiya to her plantation, she tells him he is Tui, one of her employees. As Tui, she makes his life a living hell by making him eat and sleep in sand.

When he regains his memory, Tuthiya vows revenge and announces to everyone he will marry Dum. Though Dum rejects the proposal, she is pressured by her elders and they are married.

Of course their married life is completely disastrous but eventually they fall for each other.

What do you think? If you have any suggestions as to how I should organize the Lakorns/w Eng Sub page, please voice your opinions. I’m one person, I need all the help I can get. If you don’t like this format, do say so. I’m also deleting all nonactive subbed lakorns with just a few videos subbed.

Suggestions are always welcomed at my blog, sometimes I listen to them sometimes I don’t. I do read ALL of them and take note for future considerations.

1 Year Anniversary!

Today marks the one year anniversary of lakorn blog. I started this blog because of “Jamleuy Ruk” and to act as an extension of sarnworld–to centralize forum information. Now, it has grown into its own.

The first 5 months, I blogged at wordpress free blogging.
http://lakorns.wordpress.com/

Then, I got my own host…
www.lakornheaven.com— it crashed within 3 days, their automated fraud system terminated my account. I nearly lost everything, I lost a few dozen posts and comments. I lost all of my JLR postings. Blogging wise, it was a very traumatic experience.

I switched hosting again and became
www.lakorncentral.com—lasted for 2 months.

Now, I’m “I ♥ lakorns” and I’m here to stay.

I’m surprise by how much this blog has grown, I think last week we reached our 1 million hits milestone within 5 months. That’s a lot.

The blog’s statistics for the last 5 months from sitemeter.
Visitors: 342,212
Hits: 1,074,865

-What the numbers tell me is that I don’t have a lot of unique visitors, I just have the same people who keeping coming to my site daily and frequently throughout the day. Basically you people are stalkers and I greatly appreciate that. HAHA.
