Kao wants you to be open-minded about his film

I don’t think we need to be, but okay. Thai politicians are making it out to be more than what it is. It’s a teen flick, it shouldn’t be that controversial. Just watching the teaser, I don’t think it is going to win any Supanahong Awards (Thai Oscars) or the Thai Film critics awards, let me reiterate, it’s a teen flick about love, raging hormones. There are worst things. Then again, I grew up in the US, the ‘almost’ kissing scene in  the”Love Julinsee (Ruk Man Yai Mak)” teaser is nothing compared to what I have seen. The teaser shouldn’t be banned because they showed teenagers kissing and some where wearing their school uniforms.

I been reading some of the comments at Manager news website, many seem to agree, the ban is appropriate, kids shouldn’t be kissing. Kao is too young to be kissing in films, said several.  A peck on the cheeks is more than enough. He has committed career suicide even before he got started, said another

At the Kom Chad Luek awards, Kao defended the film from criticisms from Thai netizens.

“From the internet discussions, it is the personal opinions of the viewers. It’s alright. I can accept everyone’s opinions. I do want people to consider, there are many types of love. In this film, it is showing one type. You should try it and wait to see what happens. The discussion on the internet saying the film was too risque, I have read some of them. There were comments like that. Some comments said it wasn’t too risque. There are some teenage love like this. It’s not strange. The film made it realistic as possible.”

Kao said he doesn’t know if this film will ever have a light of day in theaters or whether scenes will be cut to accommodate the Thai censors.

“I don’t know if this film will air or not, but right now, they are in a rush to cut scenes. As of now, I don’t know how much has been cut out. I just know this it the responsibilities of the elders to edit the promotion. I don’t know what they will use and how they will use it. I don’t know anything about the news. My thought is that it is a scene in a movie, just one scene, because in a film you have to have a lot of moods. You have to be able to play every part. In the film, that is not my only part, I have many, I want everyone to watch it first. Regardless, I gave my support to the film crew.”

To the public, Kao begged them not to prejudge the film, watch it first, then judge.

His female co-star he kissed in the film, he did have a rumor with her but denies any romantic ties. He is too young to have a girlfriend and she is just a friend, he told reporters. Sure, they all say that. It’s okay Kao, you can have a girlfriend. I wouldn’t be surprise if you did.

Lastly some have even said this film is the kids version of  “Namtan Daeng (Brown Sugar)”, last year’s erotic film produced by Sahamongkol Film International. Below is the teaser to “Namtan Daeng”.

“Love Julinsee (Ruk Man Yai Mak)” teaser banned

Sighs. I feel frustrated and annoyed! It literally ruined my mood for the day. I am not a fan of censorship. Let me correct myself, I’m not a fan of Thai censorship because they take it to another extreme. There should be some TV and film censorship for frontal nudity and foul language (on TV). The blurred alcohol bottles in lakorns, it’s just laughable.

The National Culture Commission of Thailand has banned the teaser for the upcoming M39 produced film “Love Julinsee (Ruk Man Yai Mak)” on the grounds that it is “mai mor sum (unsuitable)”, especially the scenes of teenage actors about to kiss on the mouth and they were wearing their school uniforms. They were bothered by the hugging scene while they were wearing their school uniforms too.

It’s ‘mai mor som’ because young Thai kids might copy it. Oh good golly. I’ll stop now.

They are getting strict. Not only are they regulating films, they are regulating teasers too. You learn something new everyday.

Teaser for Kao’s new film “Love Julinsee (Ruk Man Yai Mak)”

Two things we know about this film.

One, our ‘Kao’ Jirayu La-ongmanee is in it, adorable kid, who recently turned 15. Woah, don’t I feel old. Secondly, the music is amazing. ‘Rue Du Ron (Summer)’ by the Thai rock band Paradox is the background song for the teaser. The song does give this vibe of summer, of being young and confuse about love. It’s not a new song, it is several years old, but it one of those songs that is ageless. I love it.

“Love Julinsee (Ruk Man Yai Mak)” is produced by M-Thirtynine (M๓๙) and will be opening nationwide in April.

It is a combination teen-drama love story, the title says it all–”Love Julinsee (Ruk Man Yai Mak-Love is enormous)”. I recognize 3 veteran young actors in this ensemble: ‘Saipan’ Apinya Sakuljaroensuk, Alex Rendell, and Kao Jirayu. The rest, they are all newbies.

The phrases in the teaser:

Sometimes love is not too mindful…youth.

At several instances you don’t have to LOVE a lot…but you must…be very clear.

Sometimes…you can love, but you must…be able to wait.

And if you think you can love a friend…you have to be willing to lose…your close friend.

Top grossing Thai films of 2010

Ranked number 1 on the list is the romantic comedy  “Hello Stranger (Kuan Meun Ho)” directed by Bangong Pisanthanakun starring “Ter” Chantavit Dhanasevi and “Nuna” Neungthida Sophon. Released in August of this year, it has made 131 million baht (4.3 million USD).

Produced by GTH, it did followed their romantic comedy format like their last year’s hit film: ” A Bangkok Traffic Love Story”–awfully funny in the first half and unnecessarily sappy by the end. I did enjoy the film very much, from the hilarious electrifying dance at the Korean club, to Ter dressing up in a yellow sequin dress like one of the Wonder Girls from their ‘Nobody’ MV, this film made me laugh–A LOT.

Ter and Nuna’s chemistry in the film–phenomenal!! I felt like I was watching a real life love story unfold, in films where the actors have no chemistry or good acting abilities, you feel like you’re watching two robotic human caricatures trying to emote human emotions. It’s not natural and quite painful to watch. With Ter and Nuna, believing that they were a real life couple was not far-fetched, they felt like two lovesick individuals who have found love again and this new love is the ‘one’. I like them, I hope to see them back together in a film, in a mini-series, lakorn, whatever again.

Aum does the sexy dance for Lucks films

Many hot-blooded male and some female with a little sugar on their bones moviegoers will love this, “Aum” Patcharapa Chaichuea dancing like a crazed stripper on top of a table on the side of road while several male and female Thai police officers watching. It’s a scene from her upcoming ghost comedy film “Saranae Hen Pee (Saranae sees Ghost)” opening nationwide on December 30. It’s part of the Saranae comedy franchise from Willy McIntosh, Ple Nakorn, and Kietisak “Hoi” Udomnak from the prank show “Saranae”. The prank show became a movie, then there was sequel with plot instead of a reality show based prank movie, and now it is a full-fledged franchise with this film as the third installment.

In the film, Aum plays an Coyote bar girl who meets two unfortunate best friends played by Mario Maurer and  “Starbuck” Phongphit Preechaborisutkun. Mario’s character just got dumped, Starbuck’s character just got fired. The two men decide to celebrate their misfortunes at a club and unfortunately for them, they encounter more bad luck when they have a bad run in with a mobster. To escape from being shot at, they jump into a very drunk girl’s car (Aum) and ordered her to jet for it. The three find their way to a temple where they meet a ghostly undertaker and encounter things they never wanted to see–like ghosts.

Tomo is the new Bangkok Kungfu lead

I’m flying!

Originally the lead role for the film “Bangkok Kung Fu” went to Film Rattapoom, since his baby mama scandal with Annie Brooke broke out, Film was removed from the project and is now replaced by teen idol Wisawa “Tomo” Taiyanonnt from the Thai boyband K-Otic. It’s a teen flick by RS records production, you can’t have a scandal ridden lead like Film Rattapoom who possibly had gotten a girl pregnant, so they replaced him with Tomo–a lesser star with no scandal. Though the film was slated for  February 2011 release date, the date has been pushed back to mid 2011 because the script was rewritten and looking for Film’s replacement took time.

According to the producer of the film Khun Ongat Singlampong, Tomo was chosen for the role because he resolved all their problems and is a fresh face for moviegoers.

“As for the news that we were looking for a replacement for Film, it’s not anything like that because were created a new script. After Film couldn’t do the film, the staff team held a meeting and  P’Tom (famous director Yuthlert Sippapak) resolved everything. Then we went searching for a new actor for the new role. We had two people in mind like what was written in the news. For the first person, he was suited for the role but I’m not giving out his name out of respect. As for Tomo, he is our artist, so I am able to talk about him. In the end, we chose Tomo because the character in the new script, he is fresh-looking and we wanted a fresh face for this project, who has never acted before [in a film or lakorn].”

Mario Maurer and “Pae” Arak Amornsuppasiri are hopefully still in this project. I knew when the scandal broke about Annie and Film, they were concerned about Mario and Pae’s scheduling if the film was to be postponed.

Tomo practicing kung fu with is leading lady Kaew Sirimongkonsakol, a member of the girl group FFK.
