The 2nd season of Superstars

[ former contestants from season 1]

The theme for this year is ‘Fantasy world’. Superstars is a reality show where they recruit D-list stars, have them live together, put them into groups each week, and train them to do musical numbers for weekly shows. It reminds me of dancing with the stars but not really. It’s a more flashy show, they don’t have trained professionals helping them out on stage, and the style is more like a cabaret show. Let me tell, the show is colorful.

The contestants are competing for a truckload of money. Last year, ‘Gof Akara Amarttayakul won. He took home 10 million baht (286,956.40 USD) in cash and other prizes. In total, he won 17 million baht (487,825.8749 USD). Yes, a whole lot of “Do-Ri-Me”. The last standing 3 finalist don’t leave empty-handed  either. Fluke, Tak Bongkot, and Jik Naowarat, last years losing finalist, took home prizes worth more than 2 million baht (57,391.2794 USD). Not too shabby.

Last year there were 14 contestants. This year, there are only 10. Superstars will air every Saturday nights at 9:30pm on Modern 9 starting September 26, 2009. You can check out their website here.

The new contestants:

Film and lakorn actor, Oil Thana. I don’t consider him a D-lister. What is he doing on this show?

Pat and Namfon’s lakorn opening ceremony

Earlier this week, the production company Step Onward held an opening ceremony for two of their upcoming lakorns: “Theptida Pla Rah (The Goddess of Pickled fish)” and “Lah Pee Porb (La Ogress)”. Both are comedies.

“Theptida Pla Rah (The Goddess of Pickled fish)” stars Art Pasut and Pat Napapa. Art is a high society guy and Pat is a girl from the country who sales pickled fish. “Lah Pee Porb (La Ogress)” stars Namfon Patcharin Judrabounpol and Aon Sarawut, it’s a horror comedy.

I love how in the interview, they had to clear news about their personal life. Art and Namfon were questioned about their relationship to which they deny. Pat was questioned about her latest beau.

Aon Sarawut ordained

Earlier this morning (7am Thailand time), Ch3 actor Aon Sarawut was ordained at the Ratchanadda temple. He was given the name Thomoloh, meaning a person who will maintain excellence. He will be ordained for 15 days to honor his parents and family elders. His family and friends were all there to participate in his important day, his longtime gf Nuan was also present.

I remember when my older brother was ordained, I acted as the photographer. It was tiring and there was so many ceremonial steps–cutting the hair, my mother cutting a lock of his hair, shaving his eyebrows, countless hours praying, my brother sitting on an overly decorated white bed, some sort of watering part, the parade to the temple, and then more praying. I remember my little cousin Boyd, who was 3 at the time, kept hitting the ceremonial gong, which gave me a headache.

Did you watch? Sue Rak Chak Yai Onlawon

I totally forgot “Sue Rak Chak Yai Onlawon (Chaotic Matchmaking)” was premiering today. Did anyone watch? I saw caps of it at the Pantip board.

OH MY GOSH, Noon Siraphun’s wig bugs the living bananas out of me. It looks so unnatural. Ummm…girl take it off, I can tell it is a wig.

Noon plays Dream, a young woman who is trying to save her brother’s marriage. Her brother is played by Boy Pisanu and his wife is played by Tik Kanyarat. The couple has a tumultuous relationship, he cheats, she is the jealous type.

Aon Sarawut is Tik’s ex-boyfriend, Witawin. Dream sees him as a threat to her brother’s marriage and I think later on in the lakorn, she marries him.

It’s a romance comedy.

The pra’nang never meet well, do they?

The first time Dream and Witawim meet, she pulls a shotgun at him.

“Trying to steal my horse, Aye? You’re dead.”
