In episode 1, I disliked Bow (Thuma), I didn’t understand her motivation. I felt she was leading Pawan on, after they had lunch together at the cheesy/poorly decorated restaurant (you know it was ugly), she told him outside, “every time we had our meetings, do you know what I was thinking about, I secretly thought when will you look up from looking at the documents in your hands and look at me.”
Of course, he was flattered and stunned by her frankness. He gasp and probably thought, is this woman Thai, a traditional Thai woman, because no Thai woman I know is as bold and frank like she is. Me like!
Then near the end of episode 1, she went cold and tried to avoid him and pressed the brake down on their budding relationship. And, I thought, has this woman gone schizophrenic on me, one moment she likes him and is accepting his advances, and the next she is being distant. Huh? I don’t understand it.
A prime example of how she was distancing herself was near the end of episode 1 when he called her from Hong Kong.
From Hong Kong, he called her asking whether he can buy a gift for her.
Pawan:“I wanted to know whether you like stuffed animals. I want to tell you frankly, I can’t read you ,whether a woman like you will like dolls like other women.”
Bow:“Why do you want to know for”
Pawan:“Coincidentally, I found a dog stuffed animal, it wears glasses too. It looks just like you at the meeting, so I wanted to buy it for you.”
In complete distress she let out a big sigh and rejected his gift idea. Why? Dude, you like him, he likes you. Go for it (I thought), you already admitted you have feelings for him. But she didn’t. Metaphorically she asked whether the dog stuffed animal was wearing a collar.
Bow:’Does that doll have a collar?’
Note:Doll in Thai represents everything from stuffed animals to actual dolls.
Instantly, he knew what she was talking about. A dog with a collar means the dog has an owner. Get it? He frowned and forcefully said ‘yes’ with disappointment.
“Then please don’t buy it. It has an owner already.” Bow said.
Pawan doesn’t really give a who. “It has an owner, true. However, the owner is not taking good care of it. The owner has abandoned it haphazardly. I think it needs a new owner.”—wow, what a declaration! He is pretty much saying, I want you, and I don’t care whether you have an owner, I’m going to take you regardless.
Bow was reluctant.
Bow:“But have you asked whether that item wants you?”
Pawan:“Looking at its eyes, I know it wants to be with me. The thing holding it back is the collar.” —Holy, this guy is confident! He is a g-unit playa for reals!
Bow sheepishly rejected his idea and protested that he should not buy the stuff animal. “Please don’t buy it, please forget it, leave it there.”
Pawan adamantly refused to. “I like it a lot. I don’t know how to explain it. I have decided already. I am going to remove its collar and throw it away. And make it mine. I’m going to take good care of it with my love. I will never abandon it haphazardly or do anything to hurt it like it’s previous owner.”–Hello, wow, he is determined!
Bow:“Please don’t do something like that. It will make things more difficult.”
Pawan still not accepting ‘no’ as an answer, “I refuse to prohibit myself from now on. I have decided, I will see you in Bangkok.”
He hangs up and buys the gift.
