3 Num Neua Thong: Ep 1 Caps

I find myself smitten with this series, when episode two ended today, I wanted more. I love this modern take on relationship in Thai lakorns compared to the ‘rag to riches/ Cinderella meets her prince charming, they do the slap and kiss dance, and they get married at the end’ plot line.  It has nothing to do with that, this is life and relationships.

Hey, I hate proofreading, enjoy the grammar errors. Ha.

The teaser for ‘Saam Num Neua Thong (3 Golden Men)’

Oh good gravy, I have some concerns already–’Ken’ Phupoom Pongpanu, his expressions, his dialogue delivery kinda hard to watch. He is struggling and this is just the teaser.  Oh my. At least he is not the main character, he is part of the ensemble of main characters.

The teaser gives you a glimpse of their relationships and misunderstandings. The pairing of Mark Prin and Kimberley Anne Woltemas has a misunderstanding about sexual orientation, she thinks Mark is gay.

Kim or Arunsri sees Mark or Kritchai in awkward situations with his friends. His friend Watchara falls on him, Ken holds onto his arm like a lover. She suspects he might be gay. In the teaser, she does confront him about it by saying, ‘we have come to this point, I don’t want to get slap.’ He looks at her dumbfounded, like wha? ‘Getting slap?’

‘You people love intensely and are intensively jealous,’ she continued to tell him by reaffirming the gay stereotype of gay men being overly passionate about love.

This is definitely not the case said her friend Fai played by newcomer Marie at lunch. He is not gay, he likes you, she tells her. ‘The way he looks at you, I can confidently tell you he likes you.’

In another clip, his assistant screams out: ‘Khun Krit is not GAY!’

With Watchara played by Boy Pakorn, his girlfriend wants to get marry. She is not asking for a ‘no’ or ‘yes’ answer, she is demanding it. ”This is not a question, or a negotiation, you have to marry me within this year, ‘ she angrily tells him in the teaser where he is sitting on the couch.

Toey and Ken are the bickering pair. At one point she tells him,  ’I will make a self-absorbed guy like you bow down to my feet.’

Boy Pakorn is the most huggable guy for Sudsapda magazine

Top: Kao, Ter, Nadech, and Pong. Bottom: Pope, Boy, Dome, and Mark

By popular vote for Sudsapda magazine at their website and facebook account, the ranking of the 20 most huggable Thai guys of 2011. ‘Roi Marn (Trace of the Devil)’ star Boy Pakorn is ranked number 1 and ‘Ter’ Chantavit Dhanasevi came in last. I would agree, Boy did give one of the best hug and confession scene in  lakorn history in Roi Marn episode 13. It’s one of those scenes, you’ll remember for a long time.

He knocks on her door, she opens it terrified, not knowing who was there. On the other end, it’s him with a drained, exhausted face. He slowly walks towards her and wrapped his arm around her body.

‘I have something to tell you,’ he says. ‘Before we get a divorce tomorrow.’ He takes a pause. ‘I think…I think I am secretly in love with you. I don’t want it to be like this. I don’t want to get a divorce, but I don’t know what to do.”

He tears up quietly and so does she. Next big whopper question, ‘can I say with you tonight?’ AH.

‘Please don’t chase me away.’

She embraces him back  tighter and they wept in each others’ arms. Their relationship was twisted by family debt and obligations. Their marriage was a force one and her cousin was a jealousy B. From the beginning it was not meant to be easy.

Top: Peach, Two, Ken, and Mario. Bottom: Son, Guy, Porsche, and Weir

The rankings:

“3 Golden Men” 2011 remake

I have never seen the original from 1998. Most likely, I will never watch it because of the poor quality uploaded on youtube or maybe it’s too old and I can’t get into it.

The lakorn is “Saam Num Neua Thong (3 Golden Men)”, a modern take on love of 3 amigos with different personalities who happen to be best friends.

First we have Teetat, originally portrayed by Thanakorn Posayanon, he is a playboy who owns a construction company. He loves life, partying, and his freedom. He lives with his girlfriend and they have an open relationship. Eventually he will fall for the cheerful Lamphao, a veterinarian and the cousin to one of his best friend Kritchai. In the 2011 remake, newcomer Ken Phupoom will be playing Teetat and “Toey” Jarinporn Junkiat is Lamphao. They are the lakorn’s bickering pair. Teetat once insulted Lamphao, saying he will never eye her as a love interest, which really ticked her off and they have been arguing ever since.

Secondly we have Watchara, the honest police officer. Watchara has been in relationship for years, but has doubts. His girlfriend wants to get marry, but he has been stalling it. He eventually finds true love with the unselfish Fai, originally played by Kem Rujira. ‘Pip’ Ravit Terdwong was the original Watchara. In the new version, Boy Pakorn is, and his nang’ek Fai will be played by newcomer Marie. Sorry, I couldn’t find out her last name.

Lastly we have Kritchai and Arunsri, they work for the same company. Kritchai is a good guy, unlike his friend Teetat, he is not a playboy or lively. He is sincere with his feelings and secretly has a crush on Arunsri, but she has a boyfriend and is very faithful to him. Her boyfriend however is absolutely horrible, he has a gambling addiction and has always been unfaithful to her. When he dies, she begins to look at Kritchai in a different way, a man who is always on her side, ready to help her in every way possible. The new Kritchai and Arunsri is Kimberley Anne Woltemas and Mark Prin, the originals were Pok Piyatida and Jakkrit Amarat.

Their relationships:
Kritchai, Watchara, and Teetat are good friends.
Lampao is Kritchai’s cousin.
Kritchai works with Arunsri.
Fai is Arunsri’s best friend.

Boy and Ja?

I would have preferred someone else for Boy Pakorn, but that is none of my business. ‘Margie’ Rasri Balenciaga has apparently matched up co-star  her Boy Pakorn with “Ja” Jitapa Jampratom. Margie and her boyfriend “Tong” Chulawuthi Chonlampee went out to watch a movie with the pair. There are photos of them together. Margie said it was nothing (they all say that): “Oh, it’s nothing. We just went out together. I’m friends with P’Boy. After work, I invited P’Boy out and P’Tong knows Ja. We all invited each other out. We didn’t go as a couple. P’Boy  knows me, as for P’Tong, he knows Ja.”

Has anyone pursued P’Boy or P’Ja?
“P’Ja, I don’t know. I’m close with P’Ja but not very well. As for P’Boy, I see him 7 days a week, I haven’t seen anyone. He only says he wants a girlfriend, but nothing comes of it. I did ask if he was lonely, he said yes, today is the fourth time I have eaten by myself (Boy Pakorn can be dramatic) So I asked him if he wanted me to find him someone, he became quiet.”

I love how Boy is sticking with Margie and Ja is staying close to Tong, the people they know the best.
