Taew and Mario Maurer’s lakorn

Mario Maurer’s first project with Ch3 is described as the guy version of “Baan Saithong (The Golden Thread House)”, is that good? I have never seen “Baan Saithong”, any version–whether is be Saranyu and Monruedee’s version or the 2000 Num Sornram and “Joy” Rinlanee Sripen’s remake. It’s not a full remake, the story is sampled from the popular series and given the title: “Plerng Toranong (Proud Flame)”. Miss Aff-lookalike Taew Nataporn is in this as Mario Maurer’s leading lady. Thai pop-star slash crooner Aof Pongsak is the guy villain. Aof described his character as a total douche–from drinking, gambling, the full works, his character is involve in everything society would deem ‘unacceptable’. I get the feeling Aof will outshine Mr. Teen Idol Mario over there.

The plot of “Baan Sai Thong” can be read here.

No Red or Black card for Mario Maurer

Two down, one more to go for young male stars who are up for the military draft lottery. Mario and Aof Chanapol will wait another year. Pirat “Mike” Nitipaisalkul is up next.

Just like last year, Mario Maurer is asking to be exempt from the military lottery, his excuse: work and school. Twenty-two year old Mario is a 2nd year student at Ramkhamhaeng University and is very busy actor. He has 3 films to promote and another that will start filming soon.

Unlike in Korea, where military service for all healthy males are mandatory, Thailand’s military draft is like a game of chance. It’s set-up as a lottery. Thai males who have reached the age of 21 and have not gone through the military reserve training must take part in a military draft lottery. You pick from a bag, if you pick a black card, you are exempt from military service for life. If you pick a red card, you must serve in the military for 2 years.

Mario about his delay:”I want to gamble too (meaning to risk picking the red card) because I want it to end today. However, after seeking advice from my elders, they said to work first. Right now, I’m working on 3 films, there is a lot of promotion work to be done. Then I’m waiting for 1 film to begin shooting. I want to serve my country too. I believe it is the responsibility of a Thai person, I see it as a normal thing. If I was to pick the red card, I would be a military person. In my heart, I’m ready.”

Pictures from the “IN Young Generation Awards 2009″

Is that time a year again, it’s the “IN magazine awards 2009″ or “IN Young Generation Awards 2009″, held at the Grammy building in BKK. I don’t pay attention to see who won what, it’s more about…did Pancake and Weir wore obnoxiously matching outfits AGAIN OR did Mario Maurer turned up looking like a Connecticut housewife with his rolled up Khakis pants and long white shirt. As predicted, Pancake and Weir did go together in matching outfits and Mario did look like a Connecticut housewife in those Khakis pants, long white shirt under a thick navy cardigan. Come on guy, you’re in Thailand, you don’t need a THICK WINTER CARDIGAN. Compared the fashion and results from last year here.

The awards category is always confusing and interesting and the award trophy itself is one ugly round head with the “IN Magazine” logo subscribed in it, on a base that looks like a plastic clear snow scraper. It’s just U-G-L-Y.

Winners:
1. Sexy Guy-Mario Maurer.

Gosh darn you two, stop matching! This is not a couple’s retreat, it’s an award show. Mario, did you wear that outfit last year too? I’m telling you, he probably has that whole outfit stashed somewhere in the auditorium and he plans to wear the same outfit over and over each year.

Mario Maurer has chosen Ch3 because…

…they offered him more money, up to 10 million baht ($300,000 USD). Who knows.

After rejecting several Thai channels to be their contract actor, Mario Maurer has sign a 5 year contract with Ch3. At some Nine Entertainment event today, reporters were able to ask Mario about his decision to go with CH3.

You have rejected several channel offers, why Ch3?

“I haven’t rejected several channels, you should refer to it as the channel elders having compassion for me. Ch7, I also love and I have much esteem for Khun Daeng (Ch7′s head honcho), she is an elder I respect. I have chosen my path and I have chosen Ch3. It’s more like I’m a kid who is choosing his own path . Khun Daeng didn’t say anything, we are not at odds with each other.”–Wow, what a media change! Before, he used to get into arguments with reporters, now he is controlling them. Who is this kid?

Was your signed up fee  10 million baht ($300, 000 USD)?

“No, there was none of that. There was no initial fee. I’m like every other actor. In the contract, I will be in 1-2 lakorns per year. There is nothing in place in what I will be playing in. I have to discuss this with the channel elders first. The lakorn “Tai Fah Tawan Diew (Autumn Destiny” a lakorn I was recently in, I like it. After participating in it, I felt it was something different. After playing in a lakorn, I developed a liking to it. It has its own charm. Right now, I have 3 movies and right now it’s okay because all of my movies have finished filming.”

—again, who is this kid? ” It has its own charm,” he is sounding like an old man.

Reporters wondered if Mario has chosen Ch3 because of his girlfriend Gubgib who has a lakorn with Ch3 airing soon. Mario, acting like an old person,  said it had nothing to do with Gubgib.

“Please don’t think of it like that. It’s not the truth. As for my relationship with Gubgib, it’s still bright, we are still good friends to each other. She is a special someone.”–what the fudge, it’s like he is reading from a script.

For his first lakorn, Mario wants to work with Anne Thongprasom.

“I want to work with Anne Thongprasom, but I want to work with everyone. I like several people. But we have to see about the role and whether it matches me.”

What is ‘the DOG’ about?

I’m curious now. The title of Mario Maurer and Boy Pakorn’s new film together is called “The Dog”, it doesn’t have a horror ring to it nor does it sound serious enough to be a drama. I’m guessing it’s a comedy because the third lead male for the film is comedian Gotee Aramboy. The film is describes as 3 different men with different styles for one woman played by newcomer ‘Yok’ Natpapat Tanatanomharat. The film will be directed by Pongpat Wachirabunjong (director of Happy Birthday and Me…Myself) and he doesn’t do comedy. So now, I’m confuse. What the heck is the film about? I guess we will have to wait to find out. Gr. I hate waiting. Tell me now!

I’m sorry, no man should wear white pants. Ee! By the way, Yok is cute.

I swear Pongpat needs to cut his hair one of these days. It’s not looking pretty.

These are old pictures from the opening ceremony conducted on December 18, 2009.
