Though Nadech is not Thai-Japanese, fans have been supportive

Last week, we received a shocker, Nadech Kugimiya is not Thai-Japanese as previous thought but is actually Thai-Austrian. That’s like two different continents–Europe and Asia.

We got to know a little bit more about Nadech’s background, it’s rather complicated, he was raised by his older aunt and his Thai-Japanese uncle, he has never met his father and he didn’t know about his true history until high school when a friend teased him on why Nadech did not look Thai-Japanese.

He has known for a while and you would probably think people might accuse Nadech of deceiving the public, but the reception by the Thai public and Nadech’s fans have been positive, even supportive. I wouldn’t consider it a big deal because he was raised by a Japanese foster father who he adores. At heart because of his love and respect for his foster father, he considers himself Thai-Japanese.

“Though I’m not Thai-Japanese, my fans have not been anti. They have even been supportive of my family. Everyone knew already.  My  manager ‘A’ Supachai Sriwichit has never forbid me to talk about it too.”

Nadech is a hot commodity at the moment, he is rumored to be a brand ambassador for 20 productions. He’s doing a lot of ‘events’, doing a lot of commercials. He did a Mazda commercial and the most recent one is a commercial for 12Plus for their astringent powder product. The commercial is rather corny, “Nadech’s lines in the commercial: “everyone says I’m hot…”

At the end, he says: “I’m not hot, I’m cool instead.”

Nadech is not Thai-Japanese

What? Is this? He’s actually Thai-Austrian, not Thai-Japanese. Holy crap. That is like TOTALLY different. And the people to who we perceive to be his ‘parents’ are actually his aunt and uncle. Complicated stuff.

Thai netizens actually don’t really care about his background. As long as he is a good person who cares about his ethnicity, many Thai netizens wrote at Kapook.

The uncle who raised him is Japanese. He learned of his background in high school when a friend remarked why Nadech didn’t look half-Japanese. Nadech went home and asked his ‘mother’ about it and she told him the truth. I’m sure he was shocked.

His birth mother is the younger sister of his foster mother, his parents broke up when he was very young, he has never met his father. Nadech regards himself as Thai-Japanese out of respect and love for his foster father who is Japanese. In the January 2011 interview with Sudsapda magazine, Nadech did say he regarded his father as his hero.

The Ch3 elders do know about this so there won’t be a press conference to clarify this issue.

Nadech is rolling in money

That must be nice. I wonder if he wants to pay my $170 speeding ticket? That would be awesome!

Reporters have gotten whiff that rising star Nadech ‘Barry’ Kugimiya  has gotten a raise because of his popularity and will be making 120,000 (3,957 USD) per episode. That is a lot of money considering we are in Thailand. If it is true, good for him.

Reporters asked Khun ‘Prawit’ Aranya Maleenon, head honco of Ch3, whether the rumor was true and Nadech is rolling in moola. Khun Maleenon could not deny or confirm the rumor because his responsibility at Ch3 is making money for the channel to use. He advised the reporters to Khun Somrak Narongwichai, an executive of Ch3 who produces and allocate funds to make lakorns.

“This I don’t know,” said Khun Prawit when asked about Nadech’s earning. “At Ch3, we divide our responsibilities. Khun Surin and myself, we divide our task of making money. As for Khun Somrak, he has the responsibility of spending money. For that reason, you have to ask him. I think you have to help create because the person who molded him probably didn’t think he would get this famous. Therefore, we must help each other to create so that we can have people to use.” Interesting. Nadech’s fame has risen beyond expectations.

Good for him, he needs the money, Nadech disclosed in his Sudsapda magazine interview for this month that he just recently brought a house.

Calories Blah Blah & Bowling Manida- “Hai Rak Dern Tang Ma Jer Gan (Let Love Meet)”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Lyrics:
[Pop]
The cause of our sorrow is the truth that we do not talk about
We have never looked at each others’ eyes, we think and do things selfishly without care for anyone.

[Bowling]
The reason why our trails of tears have never been treated by understanding.
Is because we don’t know, we don’t observe what lies deep in our hearts
It is only stored away, whenever we have done wrong, we don’t ask.

[Together]
When will we understand, when will we let love in
If both of use open are hearts
To let Love meet
When will we understand, help break this barrier down.
To let our hearts have a good and beautiful day.

[Pop]
If we talked to each other, it probably won’t make us cry

[Bowling]
It probably won’t be like this, we would have good days together.
I want it like that, can we?

[Together]
When will we understand, when will we let love in
If both of use open are hearts
To let Love meet
When will we understand, help break this barrier down.
To let our hearts have a good and beautiful day.

I want to forget our past
I want us to understand each other just once

[Together]
When will we understand, when will we let love in
If both of use open are hearts
To let Love meet
When will we understand, help break this barrier down.
To let our hearts have a good and beautiful day.
