Rita and Aun, will they work?

We’ll find out soon enough. Sirita Jensen and Aun Witthaya from horror lakorn “Saab Poosa (Cursed Fabric)” are paired together for the first time for Broadcast Thai’s upcoming lakorn, “LeumPrai Lai Ruk (Brilliant design of love)”. The lakorn is described as a mystery, crime, romantic comedy with a twist. Rita and Aun are from warring families, like Romeo and Juliet but no one dies. Technically they shoulnd’t be getting along but they did and fell in love.

Rita’s character is going to be very avant-garde, she is a girl from abroad while Aun is the opposite. He is very proper. She will continuously tease him, kinda like Matt Peeranee in “Kuan Kammathep (Cupid Group)” to Tye Nattapol. The suspense aspect of the lakorn will be an assassination attempt on Rita’s life. Groups of people will want her dead because they want her inheritance. Your typical lakorn plot.

Pictures from the opening ceremony, the lakorn started filming yesterday.

Supporting cast: Noon Boonyasak, “Jane” Jensuda Parnto, See San host Beam, and Jaja Pimrada are to name a few.

“Prajan See Roong (The Rainbow Moon)” pictures

There are whole lot of pictures too. All photos are from the Ch3 website, I’ll post a few here.

“Prajan See Roong (The Rainbow Moon)” stars singer Bie Sukrit and “Aff” Taksaorn Paksukcharean as pra’nangs and “Ace” Worarit Vaijiaranai as the guy antagonist. At the beginning, Ace is Aff’s love interest, then she comes to realize he is not as he appears; there is part where he tries to rape her. Not a great guy and that is why she starts to fall for Bie, her friend since college who has always loved her.

[Ace drugged Aff and Bie saved her]

There are a lot of elements that make “Prajan See Roong (The Rainbow Moon)” a typical lakorn–love squares, obnoxious nang’rai (girl villains), long lost mother reappearing, memory lost, and a rapist guy antagonist with too much money in his bank accounts. Then, there is the thing that makes “Prajan See Roong” stand out, it’s a gay themed lakorn. No, Bie is not portraying a confuse gay man in this lakorn, the man who plays his father is. It’s interesting.

Gays in lakorns exist for comic relief, they are the jokers, the cheap laughs, rarely are they the themed or focus character in the series. This is something different.

Another theme for this lakorn is the bond between a father and son who are not biologically related. It’s a story about a transgender man who morphed himself to a heterosexual man to raise a child who is not his own because society dictates him to do so. Complicated, right? Another question is this, is that even possible? I been seeing a trend in Thailand, especially in movies that homosexuality is influenced by a person’s environment. Ananda Everingham’s movie “Me…myself” and teen gay comedy “Puppy Love” starring Wattaporn Lamsinthorn, Pongpisut Pew-Orn, and Petchthai Wongkamlao raised the question that possibly homosexuality is influenced by experiences in one’s life and can be changed. I can’t say I buy into it.

“Earth, Water, Wind, Fire” premiering after “Dong Poo Dee”

Ch3′s action-packed lakorn “Earth, Water, Wind, Fire (Din, Nam, Lom, Fai; ดินน้ำลมไฟ)” is premiering next week, on May 15, after “Dong Poo Dee” for Ch3′s weekend time slot.

The production cost for this lakorn looks expensive by just reading the cast names, we have “Gof” Akara Amarttayakul, “Goi” Ratchawin Wongviriya, Chakrit Yamnam, Chatchai Plengpanich, Noon Boonyasak, and Joy Rinalee. They are all award-winning, capable Thai actors and actresses, who have been in the Thai entertainment industry for a long time or have recently entered the industry but exhibit exceptional talent (Goi). The production set looks good too, it looks authentic.

The story revolves around a heroine drug lord from the 70s, Parnsak (Chatchai Plengpanich) and four individuals who are trying to bring him down: Fai/Akkee (Chakrit Yamnam), Din (“Gof” Akara Amarttayakul), Lom/Ah-Fong ( “Win” Mawin Taweephol), and Nam (“Goi” Ratchawin Wongviriya). Joy Rinalee is Niorn, Parnsak’s daughter and Din’s love interest. Din and Niorn grew up together in the slums of Thailand, they separated when Niorn moved.

Din found religion and was raised by a monk when his father passed away, he grows up to be a undercover intelligence agent. Niorn grows up to be an aspiring actress and her father, Parnsak is a heroine drug lord. You can read the full synopsis at Tina’s blog.

Noon Boonyasak a lesbian?

Whether true or not, the media has already made up their conclusion by insinuating that she is one. In an interview at the premier of her movie “A moment in June”, Noon gave a long statement that she supports gay relationships. This is causing quit a stir because Noon does have a lesbian rumor, she is rumored to be dating a lesbian university student.

Noon:“How can I explain this, I would have to say that if the person understands and can take good care of me whether a lesbian, a gay, or a katoey (transgender)…lets just say Love, if you have seen this movie, you will understand the meaning of love. I don’t think that I have to look at love in terms of gender, age, or anything. It’s pointless. Nowadays, the love that we give to each other involves status–that person must be rich, has money, must be the sex of a male, that is the dream of some.

Real love can be the thing that a man gives to a man or a woman gives a woman, we should not reference back to sexual preference I want you to look at it in a new way. One, how do we mutually give to each other, partake in sharing, partake in caring for one another in life, or develop an understanding of each other, I want you to understand this more then following other people’s values. At the present, I see love as detestable, something that has no beauty. It has become like money that has been appraise, I don’t think that is accurate. “

Thai media needs to get a grip because I think she is referring to the movie. She is probably trying to explain to them about the meaning of the movie more so than expressing her sexual orientation. In “A Moment in June”, Chakrit Yamnam does play a gay man and the movie is about the complications of love, looking at love in a new light or exploring every aspect of love, straight or gay.

Someone commented that she might just be a cheerleader/supporter for gay relationship and not actually be one. I think that is more the case. If she was one, I would still support her.

Noon’s last boyfriend, he looks like a Korean loan shark mobster.
