Om Akapan is leaving Polyplus

At Thailand’s pantip forum, there was post petitioning Ch3 to sign Om Akapan yesterday. I was like okay…what? In Thailand, actors can be free agents or they can be contracted actors for a channel. Take for example, rising star James Jirayu will never act in a CH7 lakorn until his 5 year contract with Ch3 ends in 2018. Some stars are signed with production companies which is the case of Om Akapan, he worked for Polyplus production under a 5 year contract. Om Akapan was seen on both Ch3 and Ch7 because Polyplus produced shows and lakorns for both channels.

Recently his contract ended and Om Akapan is leaving Polyplus productions and some say not on good terms.

Reporters asked Om Akapan if he was scared of losing work, Om answered:’Not at all. Now I have to take care of myself I have to slowly learn as I go.’

He recently ended his contract with Polypus, he doesn’t know who will take care of his work queues. ‘I don’t know. I just recently left, I will probably have Ploypus help me out at first.’

Om did not say if Ch7 wanted to sign him. He will be a free agent for now. Reporters asked how long will he be a free agent. He answered:’I don’t know. It’s up the future and I still work 7 days a week.’

Did he get any special advice from anyone. ‘I consulted with my parents.’

Being a free agent is a gamble said reporters. Om said he didn’t want to be a free agent, he just wants to try something new.
‘I don’t want to be a free agent, I just want to accomplish something new in my life, in business too, other career prospects for example in films.’

So you are saying you will get more opportunities if you left. ‘Not more, they took great care of me but I have grown and my 5 year contract is up and I have been with them for 5 years. They have given me a lot.’

Before your contract ended, it was reported Ploypus cut of you off already. Do you not feel offended by this?

‘Not at all. We know each other well. I am a child of Ployplus productions. No mother will hurt their own child. I grew up there.’

Though he claims his relationship with Polyplus productions ended well, articles have discredited his claims. Om assured everyone the situation ended well.

Om and Pancake reunites for ‘Wan nee thee ror koi’

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Well, Ch7 is doing a remake of Bird Thongchai and Ann Siriam’s classic ’Wan nee thee ror koi (The day to wait for, The day we been waiting for)’; this version will be directed by Thongchai Prasongsanit–the man who gave us Kob and Paul’s Silamanee, Jui and Weir’s Mon Ruk Mae Nam Moon, Vee and Noon’s Sen Tai Salai Sode, and many others that I can not think of at this moment. You have to give Thongchai a lot of respect, he makes beautiful and well-crafted lakorns–addictive in a sea of rubbish lakorns.

This version will reunite “Pancake” Khemmanid Jamikorn with Om Akapan as two people who lost touch over the years and have found each other again. Om is playing a prince who had to flee his country along with is mother and adopted sister Marnfah (Pancake)–his father was being overthrown by his uncle. They had no choice but to leave their mother country to Thailand where they were separated to face their own destinies.

Om grows up under the support of a Hong Kong businessman and he becomes a successful businessman himself. Marnfah was sent to live with a military family  in northern Thailand.  Her name was changed from Marnfah to Bralee. At the present time, she has just graduated from a school in the United States and has decided to visit a friend in Hong Kong. This is where she will meet her long lost prince. Instead of her friend picking her up, she is picked up by Jao San (Om), a man her father does business with. As for him, he knows exactly who she is, her complete background that she is Marnfah–the young lady he has been keeping a watchful eye on out of concern. So they meet again.

As the story progresses, our exiled prince has to decide whether he wants to join the rebel forces to restore his throne and honor OR be satisfy with having the love of his life be by his side and to give him support for the rest of his life. I think he can have both. It’s a story of romance and war, you guys in?

Om Akapan is driving a used sports car

All I have to say is ‘oh’. It’s rather bizarre how we have to know every tiny tidbit about a celebrity. Om Akapan brought a used sports car, he had to explained himself to the media that he brought a sports car.

“I’m not that wealthy; however, I decided to buy a sports car because it is attractive and it wasn’t very expensive. It isn’t new with a red tag, it’s used. Someone wanted to sell their car, so I brought it. I don’t drive this car very often, I drive another car.”

Om was seen driving out of his house with a woman, the media wanted to know who she was. Om said it was probably his mom or sister.

‘If I was leaving my house, it could only mean 2 people–my mother or my sister. Besides them, there is no one else. By chance, my sister has come back from abroad. I have never brought a girl to my house, it is just these two my mother and young sister. “

Oh, thanks for explaining yourself. I kinda want to see his car now.

Min Pechaya will fall for the uptight brother in “Stairs to Love”

The premise of “Bandai Dok Ruk (Stairs to love)” is rather silly, the main female character “Kachao” played by ‘Min’ Pechaya Wattanamontree is preconditioned by her mother Juangjit to aim high and marry a rich man because her husband Chitchai (Kachao’s father) left her for a wealthy woman who owns a fruit market. Kachao’s mother is a bitter woman and a drunk, who has trained her only daughter to care about one thing, to find a rich man, then marry him in order to raise their family’s status above that of Chitchai’s new rich wife Jay Pintong. You can say nang’ek’s mother has an inferiority complex towards her ex-husband’s new wife. When her husband left her, she turned to alcohol for solace and started training her daughter to aim ‘high’ for a rich husband. Kachao supports this goal too because she hates her stepmother Jay Pintong passionately for flaunting her wealth and for taunting her mother by bringing her father around. Her goal in life is to get rich by marrying a rich husband because she knows with her talents it is hopeless to get rich by finding a job and working hard for herself.

Kachao’s ‘target’ is Tian (Om Akapan), a good looking guy from a wealthy family. His family lives in Bangkok and owns an Orchid flower farm. Tian is a good guy, a man who likes to have fun, and he is somewhat of a player.  In the summary, his character is described a guy who changes women as often as he changes his underwear. Well, that’s not good. Nonetheless, Tian is Kachao’s target.

Tian has an uptight businessman brother named Thup. The brothers don’t get along, Tian resents Thup for the pride of their parents and for being awesome at everything.  Thup is kinda annoyed with Tian’s care-free style, Tian cares more about having fun than work. When Kachao comes along to trap Tian, Thup becomes her obstacle because between Tian and him, he is just smarter.

As he uses himself as a physical barrier between Tian and Kachao, Thup starts to fall for this silly woman whose only dream is to marry a rich man and she falls for him too. Lets face it, between a sincere responsibility man and a silly man-child, who would you choose?

“Bandai Dok Ruk (Stairs to love)” is airing this Wednesday February 8, 2011 on Ch7.

Om Akapan and Min Pechaya’s “Stairs to Love”

From the writer that gave us Silamanee to the production company that gave us “Ruk Nai Marn Mek ( A Cloud of Romance)” comes “Bandai Dok Ruk (Stairs to love)”, a twin romantic comedy starring Om Akapan, ‘Min’ Pechaya Wattanamontree, and Sammie Pantitha Puwijaan. Om is the twin, playing two characters Thup and Tian. Love the name play, Thup means incense and Tian means candle. One is a playboy, the other is a serious business man. Min is Kachao, a girl who is conceited, knows she is pretty, and finds nothing wrong with using her body to find a rich husband. Okay. No, I don’t know when it will air, probably soon since the teaser has been released.

More opening ceremony pictures here.

Marriage then babies

Back in October, Opps magazine asked several Thai stars the marriage and baby question,  at what age do they believe they will be ready to settle down and have babies. Their answers will surprise you because it got me laughing, especially Chakrit, who said he wanted to get married at the tender age of 15 because he wanted to be a father. However, things did not turn out as he wanted to. Good thing guy, 15 is a little young.
