Lightning strike kills 3

…at a filming location for “Yam Yasothon 2 (eng title: Hello, Yasothon 2)” in Phanom Phrai, Roi Et province this past Saturday, July 11th. The director and the star of the film, Mum Jokmok aka Petchthai Wongkamlao was not there when the accident occurred. He was at a different location, quite far from the scene of the accident. He did hear the storm and lightning strikes, so he gave an order to cancel filming for the day. If filmed that day, at that location, it would have been the farewell scene between the nang’ek and the pra’ek.

The accident occurred at a farm in Phanom Phrai. It started to rain so the owners of the farm took shelter under their livestock stable; the “Yam Yasothon 2″ filming crew members ran for cover to a shack, 50 meters away. There was a loud thunder which scared everyone and then the frantic cries of a child was heard. Everyone followed the sound of a child crying and found 3 dead bodies, which included Phaibun Songchalee (75), the owner of the farm, his wife Patma Songchalee (61), and their daughter Wanlapa Songchalee (27). Miraculously, Wanlapa’s 2 year old daughter Apinyapon Inthawong survived.

Mum Jokmok was at his hotel in Yasothon when he learned about the deaths of Phaibun and his family. Mum was in a state of shock. He said Phaibun and his family were good people. They did not make a fuss about the fee to rent their farm for filming. As long as Mum filmed there, they would be happy, they said. Mum has never met Phaibun and his family. He would have met them that day, if it didn’t rain.

Mum plans to pay and be a key member for their funerals. Filming for “Yam Yasothon 2″ will continue, said Mum.

20th annual TV POOL Party: ARMED FORCE STAR PARTY

I love the concept, I love how Bird Thongchai has a big grin on his face. The theme is commando, military, army, any time of armed force outfit. It’s fun and light; I like this party better than the Siamdara Star Party. Everyone seems happy and enjoying themselves. No force, no obligation. The event was held at the Army Club on Vibhavadi Road yesterday July 1. The event is a taping, it will air on Ch7 July 8th.

Ann Thongprasom and Pancake both won that night.

Mum casts daughter in “Yam Yasothon 2″ because of laziness

One of a few Thai comedians I absolutely adore is Mum Jokmok, real name Petchthai Wongkamlao. Every movie he is in, I make sure to watch. Not for the movie itself because usually all of them lack substance, you watch for the Mum moments for his jokes and crazy antics.

I was excited when I heard “Yam Yasothon (eng title: Hello, Yasothon)” will have a Part 2, titled “Yam Yasothon 2)”. Now for the scream worthy part, Mum Jokmok, the director and actor for “Yam Yasothon 2″, he has casted his daughter Em in the film and also pairing her off with “Dim” Harin Suthamjaras, the lead singer of Tattoo Colour!

No way, yes way! Tattoo Colour is one of my Thai Pop Rock obsession and Mum Jokmok is my favorite comedian in films. What more can you ask for?

Mum jokingly contributes laziness as the reason why he casted his daughter Em for the film:

“I’m not trying to promote it, regarding this issues, I have decided to cast my daughter because she can speak Isan dialect (Northern Thai country folk dialect). It’s Em because I’m lazy to cast a Isan person, you know it’s difficult. I would have to travel back to the provinces, it’s better that I have casted my daughter. It is easier and more convenient. Another good thing, she is able to work off her room and board.”

Em lives with Mum, when he casted her in this film, he jokingly said he didn’t have to pay for her fee. If you get it the joke.

Filming for “Yam Yasothon 2″ will start next month. At this rate, it will probably be released nationwide by the end of this year or early next year 2010. The film is produce by Sahamongkol Film International.

Apologize or else!

Petchthai Wongkamlao aka Mum Jokmok is not happy with the cast of “Saranae Hao Peng”, a new reality themed movie, kinda like MTV’s Punk’d or Candid Cameras, a pranking show made into a full scale movie. Mum was one of the stars pranked. Like the TV show, the film is hosted by Will McIntosh, Hoi, and Ple Nakorn. Also, they are thhe executive producers for the film. It’s jointly financed by Hoi and Ple’s company Luck Films and Sahamongkol International.

Mum was lured by Willy, Hoi, and Ple to do a public announcement/ commercial called, “Mao Mai Kap (Don’t Drink and Drive)”. Really he was there to do a segment for the film “Saranae Hao Peng”. As part of the gag, Mum rides a motorcycle to a shop and pretends to drinks alcohol. In a drunkard stupor he is suppose to pick up a taxi home, part of the whole drinking responsibly thing. At this point, everything is fine, nothing out of the ordinary.

Then as his taxi is passing several propane tanks, 10 propane tanks are set to explode, which scares the living bananas out Mum, who is a self-proclaimed fraidy cat. He assumed they were his friends and knew of his fears, they shouldn’t have done that, Mum told reporters. Normally, when his films are doing an action segment or some sort of James Bond type stunt, Mum usually gets a stand in or a stunt man to do them.

When he got out of the taxi and saw Ple, Willy, and Hoi walking out and laughing, he didn’t find it funny at all. He immediately left. Mum agrees it isn’t a big issue, it’s more of a bruised feeling issue. If the 3 men: Willy, Hoi, and Ple, do not come and apologize to him, he is going to sue.

The incident scared him because he has his family to consider. What if it went wrong, how will it affect his family?
