Benz is not pretty enough to be a mistress

I don’t know if we can consider this an insult or a compliment. In terms of social norms, we don’t want to be a mistress, but we want to be perceive as pretty. I’m vain, I want to be pretty.

Nok Jiraya, veteran actress and lakorn producer, had to defend herself on her choice of the nang’rai role for the upcoming lakorn “Mia Taeng (Wedded Wife)”. She chose ‘Benz’ Pornchita Na Songkhla as the mia noi (mistress) to ‘Rome’ Patchada Nampan and the antagonist to the fairer skin, apparently prettier ‘Chompoo’ Araya Hagate. The argument is that the mia noi role should have been given to a prettier and a ‘kaao’ light skin tone woman. That is insulting, Benz is pretty.

Nok:

“…Benz is beautiful, I think it depends on the preference of each individual. If a man likes dark women, then he will perceive this woman as beautiful in his eyes. The topic of the mia luang (head wife) and the mia noi (mistress) depends on who is more daring. Some women have a seductive style to them that impresses men. However, some women are beautiful and bright but they are too calm and well-mannered and  always silent making them not exciting.”

I agree, beauty and attractiveness comes in a package.  I sincerely believe that ‘beauty’ is more than just exterior appearances, it’s a combination of how that person makes you feel, how well they can hold a conversation with you, your similarities, social backgrounds, and personality.

It is not as simple as she is pretty that is why he is attracted to her.

Kai wants Thai audiences to watch “Duangta Sawan”

“Kai” Varayuth Milinthachinda, a long time Thai lakorn producer and director for Ch3, pleads with Thai audiences on his facebook account to watch his currently airing, currently struggling lakorn “Duangta Sawan (An Eye for Heaven)” starring Katreeya English and ‘Rome’ Patchada Nampan. I don’t really know what to say. Jay Kai is venting, obviously. A few of his latest lakorns didn’t do so well, remember Chaloey Ruk (Honorable Captive) with Anne Thongprasom and Rome Patchadad Nampan, and Faet Na Ya (I’m a Twin ya) with Por Thrisadee and Katreeya English. Not so great, not his best work.

On his facebook account, Kai wrote :”I’m passing this along to everyone, Monday-Tuesday, it’s ending. Please force yourself a little to watch it. Don’t be spiteful, don’t devastate me too heavily. Just this much, I’m about to die already (meaning I have suffered enough). Or do you want me to stop making lakorns, if so, just tell me.”

Everyone say it with me, ‘eeee’. Does he want pity because I can’t give it to him. I can’t even sit down and watch one episode of “Duangta Sawan”, it’s not my taste and obviously it’s not a lot of people’s taste too. Katreeya English playing E-Pan, a woman doing everything in her power to get the attention of a guy who hates and constantly belittles her, it’s not just my cup of tea. And she married his future brother-in-law too. It’s just icky all around. I don’t like it. I don’t like the way Katreeya is portraying ‘E-Pan’, there is nothing appealing about it. E-Pan is an unlikeable character, she is dumb and I can’t sympathize with her.

I do have to praise the structure of the story, the acting is good too, but it’s just not ‘fun’ to watch.

However you’ll never know, this might be a fake facebook account from an impostor.

Rome and Yaya will marry in “A Rose without thorns”

Seventeen year old, Thai-Norwegian actress Yaya Urassaya Sperbund is twenty-six year old ‘Rome’ Patchada Nampan’s nang’ek in the upcoming weekend lakorn “Kulap Rai Nam (A Rose without Thorns)” on Ch3. The age gap is huge, 8-9 years. Crazy, kinda reminds me of “Dao Prasuk”, there was a huge age gap there too.

In the lakorn, Yaya and Ploy Chermarn are sisters from different mothers. Yaya is the innocent and younger sister Nucharee and Ploy Chermarn is the older conniving sister Nantawadee. Their paternal grandmother did not accept Nantawadee’s mother because she was a lady of the night. She wanted to adopt Nantawadee, but Nantawadee’s mother refused, thus Nantawadee grew up with people of the night (prostitutes, pimps, shady people, bar girls, you know those people).

When their father passed away, Nuch’s mother wanted to divide the inheritance with Nantawadee with one condition, Nantawadee must come live with her paternal grandmother and her half-sister Nuch. Oh how nice of her.

Nantawadee agreed and pretended to be a loving person with her new family. Inside, she hated her paternal grandmother and also Nuch’s mother dearly. She was determined to steal everything from Nuch and she  was successful in stealing Nuch’s fiance. She married him.

Then Nadda (Rome) came into the scene and got close to Nuch. Nantawadee fumed with jealous when she learned that Nadda was wealthier, had a better job, and had a brighter future than her husband. Nantawadee looked for ways to make her husband divorce her so that she can pursue Nadda freely. When Nadda asked Nuch to marry him, Nantawadee looked for ways to break up their wedding, but it was unsuccessful. In her attempts to foil Nuch and Nadda’s wedding, her true despicable self unravels for all to see.

Because Nantawadee failed, she get a wedding scene between Nadda and Nuch. For Yaya, this scene was nerve-wrecking because she has never filmed anything like this before.

“I’m very nervous, I have never filmed anything like this before. The wedding scene today, P’Rome will kiss my cheeks, it’s very embarrassing. My face is still red. It’s still hot ka (laughs). When I found out there was a kissing scene, I was nervous, but it’s okay.”

For her co-star Rome, Yaya only had good things to say about him:”this is my first time working with P’Rome. He’s such a good-tempered person. He makes everyone on set laugh and have fun. When I have a scene with him, it’s fun. She is able to set the mood for me. On set, it’s very playful, it’s a lot fun. They love to tease me.”

According to Yaya, this lakorn will have everything-drama, comedy, and romance, so watch it when it airs.

Apparently this is Yaya’s first time wearing a wedding dress, they should have picked out a better looking/modern dress for her. That is just one ugly dress. It’s so old-school, not chic at all.

Lets hope this newbie can act.

Rome, you have been brought…

…by Anne Thongprasom and Dom Hetrakul in the lakorn “Chaloey Sak (Honorable captive or Prideful prisoner)” for 1 year to be tortured and humiliated. Isn’t that nice?

In this series, ‘Rome’ Patchada Nampan plays Lieutenant Yothin Warat, a war hero from WWII, he was recognized for his involvement in the Free Thai movement during the war. Lieutenant Yothin has a bright future ahead of him and  is engage to Piromya (Joy Rinlanee), the daughter of a high government official. Things turn bad for Lieutenant Youthin when his father Phraya Sawamipak Warat encounter financial problems in his ship sailing (Navy) business.

When Phraya Sawamipak’s company was in turmoil, Atisak (Dom Hetrakul) took the opportunity to buy stock from the company and even offered Phraya Sawamipak money to rebuild the financial structure of the company. But there is a catch, Atisak wants Lieutenant Yothin, Phraya Sawamipak’s son, to be his prisoner for 1 year at his home in Mon Pha Luang. Atisak wants Yothin as a prisoner to humiliate him and break his pride and the pride of his family name.

Atisak and his sister Alisa Santatiwong (Anne Thongprasom) have a strong dislike for Phraya Sawamipak and his family from their father Mom Jao Traisak Santatiwong. On his deathbed, M.J. Traisak made his daughter Alisa and son Atisak promise to take revenge on Phraya Sawamipak and his family because years ago Phraya Sawamipakrat slandered the Santatiwong family name by accusing M.J. Traisak of being a rebel, a traitor to Thailand. Because of shame, M.J. Traisak had to flee with his family to Mon Pha Luang where they have lived since. M.J. Traisak never forgot the humiliation and passed on his malicious intent for Phraya Sawamipak to his children Alisa and Atisak.

With Phraya Sawamipak’s navy business in shambles, it allowed Alisa and Atisak to act and inflict revenge on Phraya Sawamipak by taking his son Yothin captive. But wait, because this is a lakorn, something unexpected happen, as Alisa and Lieutenant Yothin spend more time together, they start to fall in love. I’ll just leave it at that.

“Chaloey Sak (Honorable captive or Prideful prisoner)” will premier on January 19, 2010, it will replace  Aum Atichart and ‘Benz’ Pornchita Na Songkhla’s lakorn “Su Yipta (Fight to the end)” for the Monday-Tuesday time slot.
