2nd Annual Nataraja Awards 2011

The Nataraja Awards 2011 just finished airing a few hours ago on Ch5. Everyone looked great, BEAUTIFUL. No one was lip-synching when they had to sing the nominated best lakorn songs. Singers from the Star franchise, KPN franchise, and selected AF kids were grouped together to sing the songs. It was a live performance that bedazzled me, it was like a mini concert with all these talented young Thai singers.  I was blown away.

The duet between Gam and Patcha for the song “Pler Ruk Mot Jai (Absent-minded Love)” from the lakorn “Dok Ruk Rim Tang (Roadside Love Flower)” was one of the highlights of the show.

Though the show was beautifully orchestrated, it was a little off , Ploy Chermarn was not there to accept her Best Actress award for the lakorn ‘Rabam Duang Dao (The Star Dance)’, Ken Theeradeth had to awkwardly accept the award on her behalf. Ken presented the nominees and named the winner Ploy Chermarn but she never came up. There was an odd pause where Ken stood to the side waiting for Ploy to come up. Then he realizes she is not coming, so he had to accept the award on her behalf with a chuckle.  There is a whole discussion about this at Pantip. The first annual Nataraja Awards was amazing–this year,  some complained it lacked ‘ dara spirit’ because some of the nominees did not attend. ‘Chai’ Chatayodom Hiranyatsathiti and Ploy Chermarn won but did  not attend. “Aff” Taksaorn Paksukcharean and “Aum” Patcharapa Chaichuea who were nominated in the Best Actress category did not attend, it was quite noticeable too. For the Best Supporting Actor award, only one nominee was present, Puri Hiranpruk. It was really off.

Ken accepting Ploy’s award starts around the 5:20 time mark.

Stars came out to support OHO magazine’s 3rd year anniversary

On Thursday night February 3rd, several prominent and minor Thai celebrities came out to support OHO Entertainment magazine’s 3rd year anniversary at Central World. There were performances by pop stars and Thai Pop Queen Marsha Wattanapanich in a see-through long black dress.

I have a feeling some were paid to be there and others came out to support their good friends. Ken and his wife Noi Bussakorn definitely came out to support “Mam” Katreeya Mcintosh because this is Mam’s magazine–Noi and Mam have been friends for years. Anne Thongprasom has known Willy personally and professionally for years, she came out to support him.

Ken is sandwiched between is off screen nang’ek (his wife Noi) and his onscreen nang’ek (Anne Thongprasom). I love his hair. Ken looks so young and stylish like a preppy kid from an all boys school.

Winners at the first annual Nataraja awards 2009

Compared to other awards show in Thailand, the Nataraja awards was a pretty classy affair. No one wore jeans and the setting didn’t look cheap. The trophy is something I would want as a decorative piece in my house, it was a beautiful gold trophy of a Thai traditional dancer.

The event brought tears to many peoples’ eyes twice, first with  “Aof” Pongpat Wachirabunjong’s acceptance speech and the second was when Nok Sinjai, Nok Jariya, and Aof Pongpat sang the song “Kwarm Fun An Song Sot (The highest dream)”. Before singing, the three pledged their allegiance to the King and asked the people of Thailand to stop the disagreement and fighting. The song was profound and it caused many to weep.

It wasn’t all gloom and tears, Anne Thongprasom did bring in laughs when she didn’t realize which lakorn she won the award for. She was too excited. Last night, she won the best actress award for her role in “Soot Sanaeha (A recipe for Love)”, but Anne mistaken thought she won it  for her role in  “Borisud Bumbut Kaen(The Revenge Therapy Company)” and started thanking her co-star Aum Atichart and the crew for that lakorn. Then someone from the audience clued her in that she was thanking the wrong people. Anne then said, ‘what series did I win this award for?’ Everyone laughed and “Captain” Puthanate Hongmanop who presented the Best Actress award, showed her the card. It was for “Soot Sanaeha (A recipe for Love)”. OPPS!

Nat Myria returns to lakorns as a child snatcher

Nat Myria returns to the small screen as a criminal and a kidnapper in the lakorn “Trabap  See Kao (White Sin)” for Exact-Scenario on Ch5, currently in production.

“Trabap  See Kao (White Sin)” centers around 3 best friends: Duanphen (Nat Myria), Kaewta (“Jeab” Sopitnapa Choompanee), and Kameuay (“Pei” Parnward Hemmanee) who grew up together in an orphanage. The 3 women loved each other as true blood sisters.

Later on in their lives, destiny trapped them together as all 3 were involved in a murder and the unintentional kidnapping of an infant child name “Songkran” from his father Anon (Tang Saksit).

To avoid punishment, they changed their names and went underground and moved to Bangkok to wait until the investigation/case passed its limit. Once that occurred, they can live out in the open again. But fate played a cruel joke on them when Anon met Songkran (“Singto” Singharat Chanphakdee) again and did not know Songkran was his long-lost son. To complicate matters, Anon falls madly in love with Kaewta and believes she is Songkran’s biological mother, to which she is not.  Now we have our lakorn question, what will Anon (Tang Saksit) do when he learns that Songkran is his biological son and what will he do to Duanphen, Kaewta, and Kameuay when he learns they were involve in his wife’s murder? I don’t know, since this is a lakorn, forgive them and moved on with his life and marry Kaewta because the murder was probably accidental or someone else committed it.

Singer turned actor Singto plays the grown-up “Songkran”, the child who was abducted by Nat, Pei, and Jeab. Ploy Patsorn is his love interest.
