The media and Ch7′s nang’ek “Tangmoe” Pattarathida Patcharawirapong do not get along. Period. All actors and actresses at some point in their career face media scrutiny, negative media attention, media prying into their personal life, media leaking private photos, media’s accusation of plastic surgery. Some, who live in the limelight, can cope and adapt to the media scrutiny. Actresses like Tangmoe can not. Tangmoe has been through it all. No one likes this type of attention, Tangmoe makes it worse with her attitude and frankness. Through the years, her relationship with the media has been turbulent.
In a recent Facebook comment, Tangmoe has made it worst. On August 14, Ploy Chermarn wrote on her Facebook wall: “Why can’t an actress like me express her feelings, it’s like I’m being persecuted?? Some say I’m as vile as in the lakorns I play, tumultuous and mischievous. If I am what they say, how could I have lasted in the entertainment industry for 16 years na ka?? I’m not a good person 100 (percent) rok. However, I have enough of a conscience to not cause problems for others.”
Two days later, Tangmoe replied to Ploy’s post, she wrote:”I have to emphasize this to you, waterway depends on boats, a tiger depends on the jungle, is just a word of gratitude by reporters, when they don’t respect the rule, they don’t respect the actors. They gain from us inhumanely. Only 40% from the news provide publicity for actors and actresses. Another 60% comes from our ability and our personality. On the other hand, nearly 100% of their (the media’s) monthly earnings comes from us. The most important thing is that we create jobs for them always. But they only create problems for us always. This is the reasoning of the mouth and pen. It’s a disadvantage no one will ever understand, especially the public who reads it. To review it well, who the one being taken advantage of and who is the one taking the advantage. Who should be the one saying SORRY and thank you.”
Tangmoe is saying the media has no respect for actors and actresses. It’s true that actors and actresses need the media for publicity, but that is just 40 %. Their talent and abilities contributes 60% to their fame and publicity.
Celebrity gossip creates job for the media, thus 100% of their monthly earning comes from celebrities. Celebrities are being taken advantage of, the media should be thanking them. The media has no right to complain or say nasty things about celebrities.
Her comment is causing some serious drama between her and the media. There is a media ban on Tangmoe.
Opinions from the public at Manager where this news was published:
“The truth is Tangmoe did not conduct herself well at all. However, I think the media should have face and enough value to not go around insulting others like this na krap. It would be a good thing to look at yourself for once. Don’t fabricate news and go around insulting celebrities all day. -Guy”
“This is pretty funny, when this article points out Tangmoe did this wrong and that. The public opinion right now is against the media. Though they don’t agree with Tangmoe, they are cursing the media. I agree too, I see that the media is at fault here. When they are not happy, they write news to curse out someone. The media has become someone you can’t touch. They claim freedom of speech, a threat to media, but there is no control of friendliness or ethics of the media, even though the media has never showed the ethics to which they are trying to protect. To this day, we don’t know what the ethics of the media is. The media needs to reexamined themselves urgently.”
“I don’t like Tangmoe, I don’t like it when she doesn’t think before she speaks. But I hate the media more. Let me ask you frankly, reporters do they have more ethics than Tangmoe? They only cheer for their celebrities in their affiliations. Green head (I guess that means greedy), they only lick their own bosses.”
“Make an oath with me, entertainment news right now, they cross the line. I see in entertainment magazines, they try to take pictures of models’ crotch, not lewd!!! It’s no different than perverts who secretly enjoys taking pictures of girl’s skirts. Garbage.”
“You have to look at it carefully, I think Tangmoe’s comment is worth listening to. I have observed the media’s behaviors nowadays, including the one who wrote this article. You voice your opinions to make people interested in your news, while claiming as performing your duty. The media and Tangmoe are equals. But the media is much worst. You use your duty to hurt a person you don’t like.”–This person said some more stuff that I couldn’t quite understand.
“I want to voice my support for Tangmoe ka and am pleased with the boldness of going against the media, who think that they are bigger than everyone and think that they can write whatever they want. They lack ethics, they ask nonsense questions, and are mentally retarded. Who do they think they are, they are just horseflies, who make a living from celebrities. Fight Tangmoe, try seeking a lawyer to see if those who have placed a ban on you have the right to do so. This is disclimination (not my spelling, they spelled it like that) ka. Sue them, especially this reporter who said you were a dara pakma (a person who speak crudely).”
“For this pair Tangmoe Vs the media, I choose Tangmoe. I think Thai media bully and hurt actors and actresses more so.”
“Celebrity reporters, if they don’t dig? Incriminate, provoke celebrities to feud, then how are they going to make a living because they don’t know how to create news.”
“Some questions they go too far. When the person doesn’t want to answer, they say that person is arrogant and want to place a ban. Reporters need to reexamined themselves. What if celebrities joined forces and protest. If you try to reconcile or ban them too. You only do it for beauty (I think this person means money). If it is not right, don’t do it.”
“I don’t like Tangmoe, but this news article is publicly dishonoring her in a way, I just don’t know. They dig up old news to make a point.”
My opinion on this matter is mix. Tangmoe can get on my last nerves, but the media annoys me too. I been translating Thai news for awhile, I’ve noticed some of their strategies, they bait. They repeat the question over and over again, in different ways, just to get the answer they want. If you are not a veteran actor or actress and not trained on how to deal with the press, you’re screwed because you will eventually break you down. Sometimes I feel like they are trying to start something. You will say the wrong thing. Interviews have been mistranslated, news articles have been written to provoke feuds. I have noticed it. I usually say, I’m going to watch lakorns now. Thai celebrity news is just too much. I don’t know what to believe.
