Loving the 2nd generation of ‘Ching Chang’

My new obsession, forget ‘Namtan Mai (Burnt Sugar)’ and ‘Dok Bua Kao (White lotus)’, Ching Chang rocks! To honest with everyone, I haven’t been keeping up with this lakorn, so I don’t know what the hey-lo is up. From episode 1-32, it was a whole lot crazy and I was not watching that–sibling rivalry, betrayal, prostitutes, murder, attempted murder, loads of sex (nothing wrong with that), sisters trying to steal each others’ husbands, using black magic to seduce the woman you love, what the fudge? Lets just say the first half of ‘Ching Chang’ was all sorts of loony. I couldn’t keep up.

Then the second half came along, oh, so refreshing! Loving those young actors, I’m just smitten with the second generation!

The second generation, all roughly 18 years old:
Yongchai—’Ball’ Vittawats Sigklumpong
Atit—’Pookhai’ Phongsiree Banluewong
Ging Gaanda—Aerin Siripon
Koi Kalaya— ‘Toey’ Jarinporn Junkiat
Arisa—’Mae’ Paweesuda Janket (Mae the Star 4)
Sanchai—Detbodin Chaithongdee

Atit is Aree (Pang Ornjira) and Ping (‘Num’Uttaporn Teemakorn)’s son. Aree abandoned Atit when he was a baby to marry a wealthy man. She has a daughter name Arisa with her new husband. Atit is raised by his aunt Im (Jieb Sopitnapa) and he does know the identity of his biological mother via pictures. He believes his father Ping is dead, dude is still alive.

Yongchai is Yod (Captain Puthanate) and Oon (‘Pim’ Pimmada Borriruksooppakorn)’s son, I’m not too sure though. You can tell by his personality is very much like his parents, bold and mischievous. Like Atit, he is raised by his aunt Im. Yongchai does not know the identity of his biological father, but he does have contact with his mother to whom he resents because she is a prostitute. Oon adores her son and visits him often bearing gifts. He would usually throw all her gifts away.

Ging Gaanda and Koi Kalaya are Yod’s daughters. From episode 35, we learn that Ging is not biologically related to Yod but he loves her like his own. Koi, she is his daughter. Also, in the second half of “Ching Chang”, Yod has amnesia.

Sanchai is some hoodlum, not related to this crazy family.

So Arisa, Atit, Yongchai, Koi are maternally related, they are all cousins. And, attending the same university.

The 4 sisters: 3rd eldest Bang-On (Ann), 2nd eldest Oon (Pim), eldest Im (Jieb), youngest Aree (Pang). The mothers of the second generation.

The second generation appeared on episode 33 with the introduction of Yongchai (Ball) and Atit (Pookhai), paddling a boat ashore as their aunt Im calls out for them.

My dear friend, you must watch episode 33, it was good, love Ball, great young actor with major mega-star potential. This uni-brow actor will blow you away. Trust me.

Love Across Frontiers 2: The hug!

This is probably coming up this Saturday or maybe Sunday’s episode. Mike and Toey will have a tender moment of crying and hugging. I haven’t been watching this lakorn, from what I read, this is the part where Mike learns of his terminal illness, he might have brain cancer. Since the appointment with his doctor, Mike has been avoiding the people who love him the most. His girlfriend played by Toey has been trying to reach him but he refuses to pick up her call. Then one day, he decides to face her. With relief and concern, she rushes to him and gives him a strong embrace. A very awww moment.

“Love across Frontiers 2″ or “Love Beyond Frontiers 2″ airs every Saturday-Sunday on Modern 9.

Opening ceremony video:

Synposis:

“Love across Frontiers” Part 2 serious went Korean style on our bums–memory lost, crazy love triangles, and Mike suffering from cancer, this is absurdly Korean drama at its best.

I’m assuming a year or 2 have passed, Golf and Pat (Peak) are in a stable relationship and so are Pern (Toey) and Mike. Mike and Golf are now big time singers, who have just released their first album and of course because this is a drama, it’s a major hit. Because of crazy fangirls who don’t want their teen idols to have girlfriends, Golf and Pat have to keep their relationship a secret. Both Pat and Golf are having a hard time dealing with it.

One day, Pat and Golf arrange a get-together at a cafe to sort out their problems, Golf doesn’t come and Pat doesn’t pick up her phone when he calls. As she is leaving the cafe, Pat is hit by a car. Physically, Pat is fine;however, she did receive trauma to the head and is inflicted with temporary- partial amnesia. Pat can remember everyone but GOLF.

In an attempt to recover her memory, he writes her song. When she listens to it, she remembers that she loved him but doesn’t remember the good times they had together, she remembers only the bad moments. Pat breaks up with Golf and returns to her normal life. She later meets March (Yot) and they start dating.

On with Mike…Mike has been getting a lot of headaches and fainting spells, he goes to the hospital for a check up and learns he has brain cancer. Mike hides this from girlfriend Pern (Toey) and she assumes he is seeing someone else because he is being secretive and goes off on his own quite often.

Eventually Pern finds out about the illness and she writes a fairytale story for him. At this point, the gang (Golf, Pern, and Pat) join forces to fold origami paper cranes for Mike because in Japan their is a belief that if you fold 1000 paper cranes for a sick person, their sickness will disappear.

As they spend more time together, Pat realizes that she still loves Golf but is not sure how to proceed. Also, she doesn’t want to hurt March. Her relationship with March is made easier with the appearance of Pern’s young cousin, Oobyid (Mai). Oobyid secretly has a crush on March and slowly March starts to develop feelings for her.

——

Will Mike die of cancer, my guess is “NO” because this is a teen comedy.
Will Golf and Pat get back together…umm…yea, isn’t it obvious.
Will March and Oobyid end up together, yeppers.

“Love across Frontiers 2″ will be a predictable lakorn, consequently that is not important. The execution to the end result is what is important. Will this lakorn make us laugh and cry? Among teens, it will. Among old heads like me, probably not.

I guess that is why it’s popular, there is not a lot of Thai Teen Themed drama as compared to Korea or Japan and young Thais are craving for something like this. No matter how poorly acted or poorly scripted this lakorn will be a hit. I must clarified for those crazy Golf and Mike fans, I’m not saying “Love across Frontiers 2″ will be a terrible lakorn, I’m just saying regardless teens will watch it.

Hopefully with the success of “Love Across Frontiers” there will be more teen oriented lakorns, it’s a blooming market, executives should take note.

Continue for pictures.
